38 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, December 17, 1985 THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS Christmas is a time for not only receiving gifts, but giving them too Christmas is the love and laughter of families getting together to celebrate Christ's birthday. This particular holiday is my favourite part of the whole year. It's a wonderful feeling to wake up and see the Christmas tree gleaming and colourfully wrapped boxes sit- ting under it. Now, | probably wouldn't have been able to finish this essay without mentioning one of the main characters in Christmas. Who else but the jolly old man himself. St. Nicholas or Santa Claus. The story goes something like this; he lives in the North Pole with Mrs. Claus and has a little workshop where all the elves live. All year 'round they make toys for all the little girls and boys all over the world. Then on Christmas Eve, Santa gets all his reindeer together, gets in his sleigh and takes off. He delivers the toys to each house by sliding down the chimneys. The reason he's so fat is because of all the milk and cookies the children leave him. If | were him I would start feeding them to the reindeer before he explodes! This story is believed by many children who love Christmas and love Santa. Of course it's not true but there really was a St. Nicholas many years ago. Christmas has a lot of meaning and all of them are as wonderful as the first one. As | said before, Christmas is the season of love and giving for all families all over the world. by Joanne Chiusolo, Grade 7, Immaculate Conception School. Merry Chnstmas to all our very special friends! Scugog Community Care & Information Scugog The office will be closed December 25 to January 1 THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS My kind of Christmas is a time of peace and to be welcoming and delightful to all. It arrives with joy and leaves just the same leaving elegant smiles and gleams in our eyes. To me Christmas is being hap- py and also pleasing our elders, brothers, sisters and, of course, those pets. When my family eats our Christmas Eve delicate dinner we talk and think about the Lord Jesus, our God and how Christmas got started. I think a good way to show your interest and care about this special holiday is by displaying Nativity scenes. My favourite thing about Christmas is the idea of decorating the tree. I don't know why but it is! I've often wondered what Christmas would be like if there weren't Santa legends, trees, stockings, carols, mistle toe, reindeer and love. Than would Christmas be boring or still joyous"? In our family we have at tradition of my mom's delicious, homemade rice pudding. It's the best. Thanks mom! Heather Lawrence, Class 75, R.H. Cornish. THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS When people hear the word "Christmas" they have many thoughts. The older, gossiping ladies of the village race to put up their "'Christmas" decorations first, then boast. For younger children its when Santa Claus and his reindeer helpers bring toys to their house and stuff stockings which hang over the fireplace. For the older teen-aged folk it's "What would Julie really like for "Christmas?" or 'Do you think John will really like it?" All of these thoughts, and many more are what most people think of on the 25th, or on the holidays before. But does anybody ever remember "The King is Born," "Peace on Earth" or "Good Will Towards Man?" All these thoughts are most- ly forgotten in the "Christmas" rush On this one special day in this one special month, once a year there 1s peace on earth. | wonder what it would be hke if 'Christmas' was every day" Who knows, we might have peace for all eternity Shawn Plain, Class 76, R H. Cornish. 7 Hoping your holiday is wreathed in joy and cheer! Thanks for the bright bloom of your friendship Analda Landscaping & Nurseries The meaning of Christmas THE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS To me Christmas is the time to remember the birth of Jesus. Itis a time for happiness for everyone. When the shopping stores are filled with people trying to get the right gifts for the ones they love. During Christmas you can buy a Christmas tree and decorate it. It's a time of year when everything looks pretty in the snow or when every tree branch is covered in ice with the sun shining on it. It's nice when you drive down the street and see the houses with the spot lights on them and the lights hanging around the sides of a house. You get a funny feeling around Christmas time, it's a kind of feel- ing you wish you could have all the time. During Christmas it's nice to know that there is peace, there is at least one day that there's no war, it all stops. ' Jeff Labanovich, Class 76, R.H. Cornish.
