Co LY TR RITE RIN SERA PGE OA BC La LE oni: NER EB tion SRIF AA WIN Sey SE Christmas holidays are a joyous, festive time for family and friends, but it's also a time for a few extra precautions if you have toddlers or small children at home. Accidents are the number one hazard to children under five and most accidents occur in the home. Happily, experts tell us 90 percent of these accidents are easy to prevent. Here are some Christmas safety recommendations from Q-Tips, makers of the country's best-selling cotton swabs, known as the "safety swabs." Place your Christmas tree out of busy areas in your home. The safest Memorable Christmas Eve The most memorable Christmas was when it was the year 1978. I was getting up when I heard a noise. I went downstairs to see what was the matter. It was only Santa Claus cry- ing in the corner. "What's the matter?' I asked him. "I have only 10 hours to save Christmas, and my reindeer are gone!' replied Santa. "I'll help you!" I said. "You will?" pleaded Santa. "Of course I will, I've been in a daydream before." "This. is no dream Jacob," he said. "Then why do I see you?' I ask- ed him. said. "Well then, I'm going to help you," I said. In an hour we had finished the chore. I said, "Let's keep this our secret." He promised, but then he said in a surprised tone, 'How do I get home?" I had to think fast because there was only 8 hours left. To get him to the North Pole in an hour I had on- ly one idea, 'We will go to the top 'Because my magic is fading," he location is in a room corner as close to the walls as possible. Be sure it rests on a very firm stand. Keep all the wiring in the back of the tree. Do not have extension cords visible and reachable in front of the tree. Especially while children are young, trim the tree with un- breakable decorations. If you use breakable ornaments that are a family tradition, put them on the highest branches. Don't put the children's toys directly under the tree. Put the toys off to the side so they can play with them with no danger of toppling the of my antenna and find your deer!" "I'm afraid that won't work," he said sadly. "And why won't it,"' I asked. "It won't because they could be halfway around the world." As time went on I got another idea. We could build an airplane! In 7 hours it was done. The sun was climbing into the sky. I started it up, it worked! Santa started lifting off tree. Between play sessions, leave the toys near, but never under, the tree. With the hustle of Christinas, wrapping and unwrapping packages, plus guests coming and going, be extra careful about stor- ing household items. For example, put the scissors away immediately after using them. Don't leave empty cups, glasses or matches on low tables. Remember to keep all those child- proof locks on your kitchen and bathroom cabinets securely closed. Remember, too, that the extra holiday excitement means small the ground and then set down again. There was only 5 minutes left. I changed the battery. It lifted off and in a blink it was out of sight. When Santa got home his reindeer were waiting for him. For some resin, | just knew it was all mine About three years ago when it was Christmas morning, I got up at seven o'clock and ran downstairs to where the Christmas Tree was. When 1 sat down beside the Christmas Tree, I saw this little box- ed present and for some resin I just knew that it was for me without even looking at the name card. And then my mom told me to look at the name card and so I did and it was for me. 1 opened it and it was a jewellery box and I just went oh goody! I really did like it very much. Then I opened all my other presents but I can't remember what I got. The End. Shauna Dixon, Grade 3, R.H. Cornish. Happy CHRisTMAS May your stocking be filled with lots of love and laughter!
