Snow removal budget Residents of -Scugog Township have taken quite a battering from the weather so far this winter and so has the municipal roads budget for snow removal. : S¢ugog Toéwnship roads superintendent Ronn MacDonald said Monday morning that the heavy snow storms in December have 'pushed his department over Fishing ~~ (From page) who venture north to other lakes in the Kawartha chain. Pigeon, Buckhorn, Lovesick and Stoney Lake, among others, have very treacherous conditions, in- cluding areas of open water. In some areas, there is just an inch or two of ice under the snow cover, and the currents in these _ lakes add to the danger. Lake Scugog is the only lake in the Kawarthas - which has a winter season for pickerel, and the lake traditionally receives heavy fishing during the winter months. Conservation officers are patroll- ing several times each week, during spot checks on a random basis. Any ice hut on the lake must have a registration number. There is no * charge for this number and applica- tion forms are available from the MNR office in Lindsay. And if a hut is sold, the new owner must apply "for a new registration number. FOR INFORMATION & DEMONSTRATION CALL: takes a battering budget for 1985 by as much as ten per cent. There has been more snow for this time of year than in recent years and the cold temperatures have kept the snow loose which adds to the drifting problems on Township roads. = Roads crews have been forced to work a lot of overtime so far this winter keeping the more than 250 miles of Township. roads cleared and sanded. In December, Mr. MacDonald said the department purchased an additional 1200 cubic metres of sand. Normal supplies in the two domes owned by the Township were not in any danger of being depleted, he said, but the extra sand was a cushion just in case the severe weather continues, Scugog council set a budget of $300,000 for winter control in 1985, and there are contingency funds available when conditions lead to over-expenditure. Mr. MacDonald said Monday he's hoping that predictions for milder temperatures this week come true as that would firm up the loose snow and cut down on the drifting pro- blems on rural roads. Meanwhile the Township snow removal program for sidewalks in Ward 2 is underway with John Brickman of Port Perry operating the municipality owned sidewalk snow blower. - ra 2 ~~ / : y ' / of Ns following applicable fees.
