For parents wondering what to do with their lit- tle ones during these frosty days the YMCA has designed a new lineup of creative programs for pre- schoolers on Fridays and Saturdays. Tiny Tots allows children 12 through 24 months to play with mom or dad. Explore our activity sta- tions, listen to a story or investigate our music centre. For the new parents ideas and techniques on "how to play" with your child are introduced. For children 2 to 3 years of age the YMCA is offering Music Buddies and the Artful Toddler. In Music Buddies through the use of singing games, rhymic word plays, action songs, creative movement and in- strument playing, a child's listening ability and rehythmic sense are developed. The Artful Toddler ex- periments with a variety of art materials and techniques including drawing with licorice, finger pain- ting with chocolate pudding, sponge art creations and so on. This playtime adventure allows the parent and toddler time together without the worry of an messy clean-up at home. The older pre-schooler may enjoy creative crafts, Music Kids, Kinder- cooking or Kindergym. The craft and music programs are more skill emphasize adventure skills and creative learning. Music Kids is useful as a pre-requisite to private instrumental instruction. Kinder- Cooking is designed for children to have fun in the kitchen while em- phasizing safety cooking skills. All kinder creations will be eaten at the end of each class. Kindergym per- mits children to expend some of that energy that has been kept inside during this cold winter season. Scugog Island WI by Barb Ross Scugog Island Women's Institute presented awards to two Island students from the graduating classes of Port Perry High school on Friday, December 17, 1985. The awards were: presented to Dawn Korbak and Roger Morris by President Barb Ross and Vice President, Connie Haigh. The Scugog Island Women's In- stitute holds an annual auction sale to raise funds which in part were us- ed to establish the awards made available to an Island girl and boy who successfully completed grade 12 and 13 and are continuing with post-secondary education.
