The first period had numerous scoring chances especially for Beacock"s who missed two empty nets, but it wasn't until with 4:09 to play that Goreski's took the lead on a goal by Tim Ashbridge from Bart Wagar. Ashbridge found the back of the net again, this time early in the second frame for a 2-0 lead. The assist for this tally went to Danny Taylor. Forty seconds later the score was upped to 3-0 as Ashbridge got his third point of the game by assisting on a goal by Wagar. Beacock's narrowed the lead mid- way through the period as Wayne McGuigan connected from Ron Wagg. In the final minute of play with each team a man short, Blackstock pulled their goalie for an extra attacker and it paid off with "one goal by McGuigan from Laval Poulin. They never got another good chance to tie the game to send it in- to overtime. Regional Playdowns The Regional Playdowns will get underway this weekend in the arenas of Lefroy and Stroud. The league will be sending three representatives up for the three categories: Elite - Utica Farm Equipment; Intermediate Tier I - Goreski's Insulation; Intermediate Tier II - Emmerson's Insurance. Play for the Port teams gets underway Friday night as Emmer- sons meet Naughty but Nice of Oshawa at 8:00 p.m. in Stroud. Next to play will be Goreski"s against Phelpston of Elmvale at 9:00 p.m. in Stroud. Utica has the honour of meeting an old nemesis, Figure Design Rangers of Innisfil at mid- night in Stroud. Gananoque won in playoff action Sunday evening. They won the game one 3-1 on their home ice. Atom A's set for series On Wednesday February 26 - 28, the Malmont Farm Atoms hosted Bowmanville for the final round robin playoff game. This game would decide the fate of Bowman- ville or Uxbridge as both teams were only one point apart. A win would advance Bowmanville and a loss would advance Uxbridge into the next playoff series against the Malmont Farm Atoms. \ In the first period Bowmanville showed that they wanted a win as they skated strong with only 26 seconds left on the clock Bowman- ville pc ' th~ opening goal. Inthe . ~~riod Bowmanville again pressed hard and scored another goal early. At the 5:05 mark Steve Laird finally found the mark and scored unassisted to put the Green Machine on the scoreboard. At the 3:09 mark Chad Garvock scored assisted by Brad Moase and Gavin Cochrane. At the 2:41 mark Jason Cochrane scored unassisted to end the period 3 goals apiece. In the third period Jason Cochrane scored his second goal of the game unassisted at the 12:57 mark to give the Green Machine the lead. But at the 9:56 mark Bowman- ville tied it up again. At the 4:58 mark Jeff Parry scored on a nice break assisted by Steve Desautel. At "the 3:37 mark Bowmanville tied the game again. At the 1:53 mark Bowmanville scored the winning goal while Port Perry were short handed due to a penalty. The game ended 6-5 in favour of Bowmanville and advanced them into the semi final playoff series against the Port Perry Atoms. First game of the series will be in Bowmanville on Tuesday, March 4 at 7:00 p.m. The next two games will be in Port Perry on Wednesday - March 5 and Monday March 10 at 7:30 p.m. House Leagues will March 10 to March 15 is Minor Hockey House League Tournament Week in Port Perry. During this week, the Port Perry house league teams will compete against park, church, and house league teams from Bowmanville, Newcastle, Oshawa and Peterborough in one day tournaments for each age division. The tournament dates are Mon- day, March 10 for Novice; Wednes- day March 12 for Atom; Friday March 14 for Atom and Pee Wee; and Saturday March 15 for Bantam. The games will start each day at 8:00 a.m. with the championship games starting at 5:20 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. with the exception of Monday, DURHAM be in tournaments when the championship games will start at 6:10 and 7:20 p.m. Although other communities hold house league tournaments, the number of tournaments is small in relation to the large number of house league teams. As a result, it is difficult for Port Perry's house "league teams to gain entry into these tournaments. For most of the players, this will be their first oppor- tunity to play a team from another ~ community and to participate in tournament competition. Plan to attend the games and share, with our house league hockey players, the challenge, excitement and reward of tournament competition.
