Former resident Lloyd Beacock passed away suddenly on Saturday. Sympathy to his wife Florence, sons Glenn and Gordon and his many relatives. Sympathy to Neill and Jessie Johnston and family on the passing of Neill's father over the weekend. Funeral service will be held from Brooklin Funeral Chapel on Tuesday. Many families attended the an- nual College Royal at Guelph University last weekend. The displays were of the usual high stan- -dard and created much interest among the many thousands of visitors. N Melody Dorrell of Guelph Univer- sity visited her grandmother Mrs. Elva Toms and her many other local relatives over the weekend. There have been several very busy events held over the past few 'days at the local arena as the season of ice activities is rapidly drawing to a close. On Saturday, March the - 8th, the Blackstock Skating Club eld its annual skating show with a '{egood number of parents and friends in attendance. Teacher Donna Bron- son with the assistance of many parents, directed the 75 members as they presented the "Nutcrackers Suite."" On Monday, the annual Mud Cat Bonspiel for the school students of the area was held with many games of keen curling. After the last rock was thrown, Bonspiel organizer Elaine Kelly presented the trophy and first place prize to Tara Bailey, Joy Werry, Bryan Green and Terry Taylor. Second place was won by Todd Newman, Chrissie Beddome, Jim Clarke and Jill Van Camp, while Rob Umphrey, Karen Kyte, Eugene Mackie and Susan Kyte took third place. 'Again on Tuesday, the rink was busy where the annual Kelly Bonspiel was held. Many close games were played during the day on excellent ice conditions. At the end of the day, Gerald Kelly presented the trophy and first prizes which were co-sponsored by Pearse Jewellers, Port Perry to Merrill Van Camp, Elaine and Neil Bailey and Helen Green. This win means that Merrill has captured the "Triple Crown' of Blackstock Curling this year, as this is his third bonspiel win. Con- gratulations Merrill. Second place as taken by Dale and Jane Van Camp, Nancy and Gary McConnell and high two game winner was won by Keith, Jay and Barry Van Camp, Cindy Werry. High one game winner was Jim Smitherman, Elizabeth Kelly, Joan and Harvey Graham. All who participated report a fine day of fun and fellowship among their curling friends. Ten members of the Blackstock Youth Group along with four leaders Dale and Anita Davis, Jan and Blair Martyn, spent the weekend on a retreat at the Davis' cottage on Ken- nisis Lake, Haliburton. In Rev. Davis' absence, student minister Verna Windrem conducted service on Sunday morning using as her text Jesus - The Bread of Life.
