Kent and Doug Farndale, Eileen and Terry Hodgins were the guests of Dorothy and Roy Hope for a Fon- due supper and very enjoyable evening on March 8th. On Wednesday evening the UCW met at the home of Grace Beacock with fifteen members and three visitors present. The devotion was given by Eileen Hodgins and Noreen Crosier. Theme "Symbols" of St. Patrick's and Easter. Opening Hymn 'Near the Cross' was sung followed by scripture taken from Matthew 6. When we think of Spring and Easter, we look for the first signs -- if flowers peeking thro' the ground. These grow from a brown bulb and means new life. The Easter Lily first grew in Japan, many years ago but now produced here by the thousands. The Easter egg is a symbol of Easter all over the world. Hymn 'In the Garden' was sung followed by prayer. A very in- . teresting film on decorating eggs was shown. The minutes of the last meeting read and treasurers' report was given. A letter was read from the Hospital Auxiliary asking for our support to their Spring Fair April 26th at the Latcham Centre. We are asked to provide baking and any sewing or knitting. A lovely lunch with the St. Patricks theme was served. Thursday evening with the weather much improved nine tables of euchre players enjoyed themselves. The lucky ladies; Reta Boe, Grace Manns, Gertie Dennie and for the men the ladies seemed to take over with Phyllis Clarke, Mildred Thompson high and Murray Geer low. J. Poots won the lone hand .series with 14. Port Perry to host Tankards On Thursday March 27, the Port Perry Curling Club is hosting the South Ontario Curling Association Tankard Finals. oo. This is the oldest Ladies' Curling Competition in Ontario. The first Tankard Final was held in Belleville in 1914 on outdoor ice. Their brooms were regular kitchen straw brooms, and all wore long kilts. Many clubs compete first in- the 16 Districts and then in *' Division levels. These club. S.0.L.C.A. are from Windsor to . Kingston and north to Gravenhurst. Only 4 clubs reach the Tankard Finals. Each club sends 8 curlers to the double team event. A ten-end game will be played March 27 at 9:00 a.m. and the se- cond game at 1:30 p.m. In the 1:30 p.m. game, the morning winners play-off for the Tankard cup. The morning losers play-off for the Nor- they Trophy. The ladies of Port Perry Curling Club have been working to make this a pleasant and memorable .ccasion. Spectators are more than welcome to come and watch some excellent curling. Sportsland loses 4-1 On Sunday, March 2 the Sport- sland Juniors travelled to Ajax to start our round robin playoffs. This was a hard fought penalty filled game ending in a 4 to 1 loss for Port. Our lone goal was scored by Kelly Calloway from Jen Pelow. Playing well between the pipes were Kerri Allen and Terry Childs to hold down the shooters of Ajax. The Sportsland Juniors will go to the "B" Regionals this weekend ~ March 7, 8 and 9th at the Oakwood Arena. Duplicate bridge results Afternoon - 4 Table Howell - Average 42: 1. Petites blast On Sunday March 16, the Bruton's IDA Petites travelled to Woodville for our second playoff game and came home with an 8-1 victory. The forwards were put back on defence and the devence moved up for most of this game. We appeared to start out slowly and got on the scoreboard midway through the first period. At the end of the period we led by a score of 5-0. Scorers in this period were Chrissy Hicken 1 goal; Kelly » Menzies 1 goal, 2 assists; Kim Pop- pleton 2 goals, 3 assists; Jennifer Morden 1 goal, 1 assist; and Kim Finley 3 assists. Woodville scored Woodville 8-1 early in the second period and ap- peared to come to life. For the last couple of minutes of the game the forwards were brought up front again. Within a minute Amy Parlia- ment scored 3 goals with Denna Lovering getting 1 assist and 3 go- ing to Lyndsay Dutkewich. The highlight of this game was Kelly Menzies receiving a pin for assisting on her 50th goal today. Way to work Kelly!
