NS CEE EE ae aa BL A Bantam House League crown on the line Final game went right down to the wire IGA - ¢ Consumers Gas - § One wonders why one team would score then the other team scores, etc. etc. But this was how these two teams went about the game plan on Saturday. Keep close guys, then we'll make our break. The first period had IGA drawing first blood on Bobby Orr's goal after taking a pass from Ed "Toffs" Tof- fin. Then the Gas Works came right 'back to tie it at 1-1. Just before the period ended IGA went out front on Mike Toye's goal. The Gas Works goal was scored after some passing between Craig Free and Frank VanVeghel before passing to Chris Menzies who made no mistake in beating Hobby high. Picking up the assist on Toye's goal, Chris Menzies made a perfect pass. Consumers needed only 1:25 into the second period to tie the score at 2-2 with Frank VanVeghel scoring with the assist going to Dale Leask and Derek Slack. IGA waited until late in the period to again break the tie and go ahead on Chris Lavereau's goal -- Gerry Douma and Mike Toye earning the assists - 3-2 IGA after two periods. Like I said at the start "wait for the break guys," and these two teams just kept it up with the Gas Works scoring. Steve Cobham cleared the puck up ice and Derek Slack picked it up and beat Hobby. But IGA wasted little time, taking the lead again after Mike Griffin fed a pass to Bobby Orr and he made no mistake beating Cobham. The Gas Works came right back with Darryl Bradt passing to Adam Danter who scored. Then Duane Leask broke in front of the face off and beat Hobby again and took the lead for the first in the game 54. But Steve Armstrong took a pass from Orr and he let go a seeing eye puck that for some reason found the net. Score 5-5. Oh well, here we go again! Consumers pulled all the strings in their effort to win and put pressure on IGA. But Chris Lavereau came up wiln a loose puck and Bingo! 6-5 IGA and the Championship! To IGA the Champions and Con- sumers Gas, Cochranes and Em- mersons Insurance -- it was a wonderful year for you all. Thanks. Game 2 In game two of the final round was decided in the second period when IGA counted for three goals -- and went on to win 3-1 over the Gas Works. Both teams played hard in the first period with outstanding plays by the goalkeeper, Ian Hobbs and Steve Cobham. Neither team could get that early edge the needed until IGA finally broke ground in the se- cond period. Bobby Orr started by blasting a shot pass Cobham after taking a pass from Mike Toye, then Shawn Phillips intercepted a pass, fed John Sturman who quickly pass- House Leagues final games (From page 27) for what proved to be the game win- ning goal. The balance of the game was highlighed by end to end play and exceptional goaltending by Brian Madill for Larocque's to preserve the 1-0 lead. With just 2 minutes remaining and Parents On Sunday April 6, the Sportsland Juniors ended their season playing an exhibition game against the parents. I believe most of the parents will agree that the game is easier to play from the stands as there were many a frustrated ring stabber on the ice. We would like to thank our spon- sor, George Legere of Sportsland. We would also like to thank coach Barry Beare and manager Janice Jackman for providing their time and effort to the team. A special thank you is extended to Marg Pelow for helping out behind the bench when needed.
