In Greenbank Park last Monday night the Gamblers came from behind on 3 separate occassions to finally edge the Merchants 4-3 on Greg Rodd's dramatic 2 out homer in the bottom of the ninth. However, Greenbank made good use of the long ball and home runs by Trevor Till and Greg Rodd and a ringing triple by Don Beaton enabled the Gamblers to finally win the game. Greg Rodd had two hits in the game and John Foster and Dennis Romeril rounded out the 7 hit Greenbank attack. Ken Goreski pitched 7 strong inn- ings for the Gamblers but left the game in the eighth inning with a slight muscle pull in the leg. Goreski struck out 8 Oshawa batters during his stay on the mound. Roland Osske pitched the final two innings and picked up the win on Greg Rodd's last out home run. Jim Chilvers struck out 15 Green- bank batters in taking the loss. On Wednesday night at Oshawa Durham Fields the Gamblers fell behind Oshawa A.C.L. early in the game and trailed by a 6-0 score after only 3 innings. However, Roland Osske settled down on the mound and the Green- bank defense tightened up and the Gamblers managed to get back in the game to finally lose by a 7-6 score. Greenbank have always relied heavily on their excellent defense but so far this year they have not played well in the field. In the se- cond inning a miscue by the Gambler infield let to 4 unearned runs and eventually proved to be their downfall. Doug Spencor and Larry Marshall teamed up for the Oshawa. win. Roland Osske went the distance for Greenbank to even his record at 1-1. Brian Myers led the Gamblers at the plate with 3 hits with Neil Rodd, George Redshaw and Hugh Johnston each collecting a pair of safeties. Don Beaton, Greg Rodd and Brian Till each had a hit in the Greenbank 12 hit attack with Elimination Draw to be held June 7 by John Ross The Town of Port Perry is an or- dinary Ontario Town in many ways, but in the important ones I bet we are the envy of many other com- munities. There are not many places around where so many peo- ple get invloved and enthusiasticly support the numerous organizations and worthy causes around. The community spirt in Port goes so much further! You only need to open a year book or look at a skating club program to realize the businesses and citizens of our town are doing their share as well. My main objective in writing this article is to promote the June 7th Elimination Draw and Dance that is being held in the Arena at 7:00 p.m. All the user groups and the Arena Board hope that this year will be the most successful yet. The purpose of the Elimination Dance is to help off- set the ever rising cost of operating the Arena and to keep the ice ren- tals at a reasonable rate. This is a very worthwhile cause when you consider how many of us and our children have access to the Arena for recreation and good healthy exercise. Speaking of exercise - where else could you improve your health dan- cing away the night and have a chance of winning a grand prize of $4,000 or numerous smaller cash windfalls. The total cost of all this fun and entertainment is only $10. Tickets are available from many members of the -user groups, Pineridge Sports, Sportsland and Gregory's Men's Wear. George Redshaw driving in 3 runs. The Gamblers next home game is Steve Baker, Don Wylie and Dan next Monday night when the Port Tutton each had two hits for Perry Legion Team visit Greenbank Oshawa.
