LOB 1EO MICROWAVE OVEN SERVICE | Women's Meeting .at the June meeting of Honeydale "fee was made. ~ Marion, who drew our attention to Honeydale | Institute by Lillian Harper There was a very good attendance Women's Institute: After singing the opening ode, and repeating the institute Creed, we observed two minutes silence in memory of Minnie Diamond, a long time and much respected member, who passed away recently. A donation was sent to the Adelaide Hoodless home in memory of Minnie. During the business period it was announced that the District picnic will be held in Uxbridge on July 8th and a decision to have our branch picnic on August 7th. Marion Johnston gave a splendid report on the last Scugog Social Planning Council meeting, and a motion that we pay our membership There was some discussion con- cerning our exhibit at the Port Perry Fair, and several offers of help for same. A letter requesting quilt blocks for the Erin Lee home was received. Nellie Nottenboom generously of- fered to look after this matter. Jean Carnochan gave an excellent report of the District Annual meeting which was held in Stouff- ville. There were nine of our members who attended. , An announcement was made con- cerning a Treasurer's Workshop to be held on Scugog Island on September 9th. Our secretary and treasurer plan to attend. Marion Johnston and her group were in charge of the program, which centered on "citizenship." The Roll Call -- "We have every right to be proud of Canada. How can we make Canada proud of us?" was answered in many interesting ways. The motto 'Your heritage of freedom, like a jewel, is yours to guard" was ably dealt with by the wonderful freedom we enjoy in Canada in comparison to so many countries in the news each day, whose citizens are oppressed. Pearl Gostick gave a thought- provoking reading concerning tourism, and how we should strive to make visitors welcome in our country, and what Expo is doing to promote tourism this year in Canada. A very humorous reading was given by Gladys Slack, which everyone enjoyed. Ruby Bryant's reading concerned Prince Edward Island, and some of its similarities to Ontario. Following the meeting, we sang "O Canada,' the Women's Institute Grace and enjoyed a social half hour together. GORDON L. CORNER LTD.
