There was a bake sale at the general store, with lots of cakes, pies, etc. sold in the afternoon. There was a strawberry social held at Burns Church Hall, when well over 250 people were served. Sandra & Harvey Bath of Ashburn, Paul Bath of Newmarket & Ed Robinson of Pickering entertained with sing- ing, guitars, mouth-organ and -glocinspeil. Then there was a _ celebrity. cake judging of 14 lovely cakes. Ken Brown received the 1st prize for the best tasting cake. Bun- ny Cox made the best decorative cake. The most humourous cake prize was won by John Cincurak. Most representatives of the occasion cake went to Gary Young and Ross Batten got the prize for the most in- triguing cake. The judges were Tom Edwards of Whitby, Councillor, Roxanne Reveler of the Profile, and Harvey Graham, Councillor in Scugog. The 14 celebrities paraded with their cakes to the community centre, where they were auctioned off. Excitement mounted as the auc- tioneer, Steve Liptay, started the cakes at about $1.00 and they quick- ly went up. The last cake was sold by Chinese bidding and went for $500. Over $5,000 was raised and money was still coming in. Much thanks is due to the organizers, who worked hard and to everyone who contributed in any way. Mr. and Mrs. De Wolde expressed their heart felt thanks to everyone at the end of the day. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Mitchell of Deep River spent a few days with Mrs. Muriel Fisher and visited other relatives recently. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Bath attend- ed the Crone family reunion last weekend in Toronto. Mrs. Art Oliver of Myrtle attend- ed their family reunion at Fenelon Falls last Sunday. The lovely singers were Karen Bacon, Heather Couperthewaite & Jennifer Hunter accompanied by Mrs. Linda Hunter at the piano. Both Dave Clark & Murray Bacon are running in "The Sexiest Man - Contest" in Uxbridge. The proceeds from this event go to the Kidney Foundation & costs a penny a vote. Mr. and Mrs. Armour McMillan have returned from a visit with relatives in Fillmore Sask. They report the crops are good but the farmers are very busy spraying to protect their crops from the Grasshopper plague. While there they visited one of Rachel's distant cousines in Estavan. it is too bad that Armour lived it up as he is now suffering from an attack of Gout. Mr. Harold Holtby was home for a weekend visit but is now back in Oshawa Hospital. We wish him a speedy recovery. A family picnic was held at the lovely home of the Fred Phoenix's on Sunday. The Sunday School picnic will be held on July 13 with an informal out- door worship service at 11 a.m. followed by a picnic lunch & then sports & games in the park.
