Imagine strolling along the shores of Scugog this summer in the com- pany of some of the better artisans of our area. You will be able to do this on July 12th at the Festival of Art on the Lake, which promises to be a lux- urious addition to Caribbean Festival Days this year. I think it is extremely exciting that we have a great deal of artistic talent in our area and if you also like original work, you will enjoy this show with an opportunity to buy. I will highlight some of the people who will be at the show to sustain your curiousity. Jean Robertson and Ina LeGard will represent Folk Art very extensively. We are fortunate to have Paul Williams and his wife Bev from Williams Studio in Bethany. Paul does leather work, and his wife is a weaver, a very creative pair. In painting we have our own Les Parkes, always popular. Sheila Dantzer, Pat Mikuse, Carol Patter- son and many others. Frances Solar and Dini Page always have a praise-worthy display of weaving. Painting on silk I always find vibrant, and visually exciting and we are well represented here with Mariiyn Wallace and her original scarves, and Ruth Sedgewick and her Fan- tasy Silks which include garments with some very exotic designs. The pottery lovers will be in their glory with the work of Sooz Wells of Brooklin, Barbara Kimball, Irene Duyf and the Oshawa Pottery Club. The day of the art show, we are hoping for the sun to shine on our outdoor show, a. it will be magical- ly caught by the stained glass pieces of Chris Montgomery of Whitby as she plans to hang them on the trees. The work of Marcela Lukavsky of Uxbridge is gaining in popularity in a widespread area. She makes very trendy, original ceramic jewellery. Georgia Tremain will be there with Art and Craft items from her Mill Hollow Gallery. I hope this includes work of Bill Fitches as he was unable to come. Every home should own a hand- carved duck or bird, and there will be a very nice display from two car- ving clubs. The Brooklin Wood- carvers and our own newly established club, The Birdseye Cen- tre Wood Carvers. The items from the carving club will be on display with a few for sale, but don't hesitate to make an offer - just remember we have some prize win- ners in our midst. Wow! This is bound to excite your artistic curiousity. I am sure there is something for everyone. We will see your there. PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, July 2 1986 -- 37 POLKA DOT DOOR - LIVE!
