12 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 15, 1986 Golden Griddle pancakes galore at breakfast Despite cool, rainy weather on Saturday morning over 1600 people converged on Palmer Park to take part in the second annual Golden Griddle Pancake Breakfast. The numbers were down this year on account of the weather (about 3000 were fed last year) but there was still plenty of enthusiasm by those attending and the Golden Griddle staff. Golden Griddle owner, Harold McDonnell, was on hand during the morning and was surprised at the numbers that attended the breakfast. "There is a lot of com- munity spirit in Port Perry' he said, indicating that they enjoy coming here to sponsor the Pancake Breakfast. Also on hand during the morning was Miss Dominion of Canada Irene Vermeulen who helped serve those attending for breakfast. Following the event, Major Jerry Taylor presented Mr. McDonnell a key to Port Perry on behalf of the Scugog Chamber of Commerce for his continuing support of the com- munities annual summer festival. fee KIDNEY FOUNDATION OF CANADA "TORONTO & DISTRICT CHAPTER wishes to thank the following merchants and business establishments for- their contributions of prizes and co- operation for the Scugog Sexy Man Contest. The reward has been offered by Vallie Lovering, owner of the Turf Township approves repairs Township council has given ap- proval to the Scugog Arena Board to get at least two quotes for repairs to the roof at the Arena on Durham Road 8. Bob Jamieson, chairman of the Arena Board, told councillors Mon- day afternoon that the interior north wall of the arena constantly shows moisture and unless the problems are corrected, the Board could _be faced with a major repair bill in the near future. He suggested that regular maintenance on the roof now could prevent the need for a complete new roof, a job that could cost as much as $50,000. Mr. Jamieson estimated that the repairs needed at this time will cost much less. Council agreed and set a limit on the spending for the roof repairs. If the quotes for the job are within that limit, the Arena Board will be authorized to let the contract. It was also suggested that since the building is now ten years old, a regular maintenance program should be included in the budget for the Arena Board. If the repairs are done this year to the roof, the funds will come from the Township's Parks and Recrea- tion account. 985-3747 THE PORT PERRY STAR IS NOW OPEN SATURDAYS 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. To show their appreciation, Scugog Chamber of Commerc had Mayor Jerry Taylor make a presentation to Harold McDonnel president of Golden Griddle Restaurants Ltd., with a "key to Po Perry." Mr. McDonnell and his staff served up over 1600 pancak breakfasts last Saturday morning. Also stolen at the same time was a truck and trailer belonging to the Turf Farm. The truck and trailer were recovered the next morning parked at a restaurant near Wasaga Beach. Mr. Lovering is asking anyone who may have seen the truck, trailer and loader on the highway that evening or early the next mor- ning to call him at 985-7622. The truck is a 1976 Ford Council rejects plaza (From page 1) grow," said area councillor Harvey Graham. A decision on how many lots coun- cil will allow is expected some time in the next three or four weeks, and could be made as early as two weeks when council holds a regular plan- ning meeting. TURNED DOWN "Meanwhile, a proposed estate residential development south of Port Perry on the Oshawa Road has been rejected by the council. The proposal called for about 55 lots on the west side of the Regional Road, south of Concession three.
