Should the Township be charging the same building inspection fees for a home worth $80,000 as it does for one worth $800,000? That question was asked at the council meeting Monday afternoon when the building permit report for June in Scugog showed that one new house under construction is worth $800,000. The building permit fee of $110 is supposed to cover the necessary in- spections done during construction of a new home. It is the same fee for all new homes, regardless of size or value. "Does it not cost more for inspec- tions on a house worth $800,000 than it does for one worth $80,000?" ask- ed councillor Don Cochrane. Township administrator Earl Cuddie agreed that it does. "However, councillor Lawrence Malcolm pointed out that to base the permit fee on the value of the house would result in those taking out the building permits "under- estimating" the value of the home. . The permit for the $800,000 home, by the way, was taken out by'a Toronto resident, and the house will be built in the northwest area of the Township. Meanwhile, building permits for the month of June in Scugog reach- ed a total value of just over $3 million. Included in the total are 25 new single family homes, most in ~ the price range of $80 to $100,000. New | appointment for OFA Ontario Federation of Agriculture president Harry Pelissero has an- . nounced the appointment of Joanne R. In Saskat- chewan her experience included work with the Executive Council, the Department of = Inter- governmental Affairs, and the Department of Justice where she was Special Assistant to the Depu- ty Attorney General. Ms. Sutherland is a graduate of the University of Winnipeg in economics and political science, and studied at the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Law. She will assume duties at the Ontario Federation of Agriculture effective July 15, 1986. The Ontario Federa- tion of Agriculture is the largest direct membership farm organiza- . tion in the province. It's members include 24,000 farm families, plus 26 agricultural marketing boards, commodity groups, co-operatives, educational agencies, and rural ser- vice organizations. |)
