Leni ma ee a by Wendy Clark Monday, July 7th, 18 residents participated in bowling. We had two top scorers this week with Becky Gray and Bill Moroz with 112 points. Congratulations! ! Tuesday, 24 residents attended the Residents Council Meeting for 30: The} big item that was discuss- was the upcoming trip to Niagara Falls. Thirteen residents wish to go. Also discussed was their picnic they are going on July 31st. They decid- ed that they would like salads and cold cuts for lunch. A new fan for the dining room was also requested. Everyone became involved in a discussion on Nursing Home Week. When asked how they liked it, they said that "they enjoyed all of the ex- tra things there was do do." It was also announced that every Wednes- day morning during the summer months (weather permitting), there will be a coffee hour (9-10) on the patio and then followed by exercises till 11:00. We then adjourned the meeting and everyone relaxed while having tea and cookies. Wednesday afternoon the residents really had to use their heads. It was quiz day at the Nurs- ing Home. Minnie Harper won a prize for the best dot to dot picture. Dorothy Archer was a whiz at answering quiz questions. Margaret Edwards and Irene Thomas were very quick at giving replies to the trick questions. Between the laughing and talking they all en- joyed it fully. Later, tea and cookies were served. On Thursday, July 10th, seven residents and chaperones travelled to the C.N.E. Bandshell to a Senior's Picnic and Fun Day. They certain- ly enjoyed the sun, dancing, the good food, a tour of the flowers and listening to the live band. On the way home, we stopped at Haugen's for some Strawberry Pie. During the evening, eight residents attend- . ed the Wintario Draw at the Port Perry High School. We had a few small winners and everyone had a good time. A good time was had by all on Fri- day the 11th. Some of the residents got busy doing some baking for our Flea Market that is coming up, while others went downtown to Festival Weekend. Edna Post weakened and just couldn't resist the smell of the barbecued ham- burgers. It was a real treat for all. Everyone rested over the weekend, and then Monday morning it was back to work with our daily Monster muskie landed inone lucky trip Sam Naples and Bert DeShane of Port Perry spent one day last week fishing on Lake Scugog. They only caught one fish. But what a fish. Sam was trolling off the West Shore Marina with a Mepps and minnow when a 25 pound muskie hit. Sam was using light spinning gear and 10 Ib. line, so it took him quite a while to get the big fish into the boat. "Both of us had to hoist the net in," Sam said. Topping the scales at better than 25 pounds, it also measured just over 47 inches in length. Needless to say, Sam was pretty excited about the catch, and the fish has a date with the taxidermist. exercise class. In the afternoon, everyone enjoyed some Laurel & Hardy movies which certainly had everybody laughing. Afterwards, the ladies baked up a few batches of tea biscuits. Tuesday, July 15th, was the mon- thly birthday party. Forty residents attended to help eight special residents celebrate their birthday. The Seagrave U.C.W. came and entertained and also brought love- ly homemade cakes. Rev. Shepard accompanied the group and was the M.C. for the party. We would like to thank this group for the terrific afternoon. Their hard work and thoughtful gifts were greatly ap- preciated. Special mention to Mildred Puckrin who made the arrangements. Wednesday, July 16th, was Western Day. All of the cowboys and cowgirls met out on the patio for cof- fee, tea biscuits and jam. We then all enjoyed the Pet Show. The win- ners were: Fans Favourite: Amy and Benji; Most Talented: Charleen and Snoopy; Funniest: Art and Peter the duck; Best Groomed: Tracey and Muffin; Biggest: Rob and Meathead; Best Costume: Jackie and Pepper; Most Different: Ron and Billy the goat; Loudest: MacKenzie and Benjamin; Fluf- fiest: Priscilla and Pepper. Con- gratulations to all our winners'and thank you for entering. We then had a Pork Roast for lunch and then continued the after- noon with the movie "The Apple Dumpling Gang." After the movie, the saloon opened and everyone ejoyed sipping Root Beer Floats. We then held some western contests. For supper everyone enjoyed good ole' hot dogs, beans and weiners. In the evening, the saloon offered beer shantys and a live band (The Odd- balls) to entertain us. By the end of the evening everyone was ex- hausted and just fell into bed. Thank You to everyone who made the day possible. The only comment we heard all day was '"'What A Great Day." Thursday morning there were not too many people down to morning exercises as quite a few people slept in. During the afternoon, we held crafts. Some of the ladies did some quilting and some did some sewing. Friday, July 18th was Bingo. Con- gratulations to the winners. Birthday greetings are extended to- Mr. Bill Gibson (July 24), and Mr. Ralph Sommerville (26). We would like to welcome Mrs. Marguerite Bowles to the Nursing Home. She has come to us from Daheim and has settled in here very well. . We would like to express our sym- pathy to the family of the late Mr. John Linton. John was with us for several years and he used to love to sing good ole' English songs to us. He certainly will be missed by all of us . We would like everyone to note that on August 8th, from 10to 6 p.m., we are holding a Flea Market. Ven- dors are welcome to join us at $5 a spot. For more information contact Kim at 985-3205.
