The kids enjoyed learning about the opera- tion and the making of pizza's and all enjoyed some delicious pizza after the tour. : Next weeks theme is Career Week. Each day we will talk about a different occupation but first we will have a bottle drive throughout the Blackstock and Nestleton area Deadline nears for the Marigold Contest entries There are many beautiful garden displays in the Brooklin area and there is not much time left to enter the Whitby Chamber of Commerce Marigold Contest. The deadline for entries is Saturday, August 2. Entry forms are available at Weall and Cullen Nurseries, Oshawa Garden Service (Dundas Street and Thickson Road loca- tions), Sun Gold Fruit Market, DeVille Produce, Vallee's Fruit Market, Whitby Dominion Hard- ward and the Chamber of Com- merce office in the Centennial Building. All you need to do to enter is fill out the entry form and place it in the orange box at any of the above locations. Judging of the gardens will take place on Aug. 18 and 19, in four categories; residential, industrial, PICE-YOUR-OWN institutional and commercial. Winners in each category will receive a free dinner for two at the awards night at Cullen Gardens on Sept. 5, a keeper trophy, and their names on a brass tray which is displayed at the Tourist Information Centre $ For this year, the residential win- ner will also receive a gift cer- tificate for a "Queen for a Day" package from Valentino's Total Hair and Skin Salon. The gardens will be judged on the following standards: design and layout, general health and condition of the flowers, quality of maintenance and plant display. This is the fifth annual marigold contest held by the Chamber of Commerce to promote Whitby's of- ficial flower. The contest is open to Whitby residents only. The children loved the candy hunt and unwrap the pre- sent games where the children got to share bags of jelly beans and jube ubes! "This week is culture week. Every- day is a different country. We will be playing games and crafts for - each country. Wednesday there will be a trip to Square Boy Pizza, lunch in the park and then swimming at Birdseye Pool. Hot dogs & drinks will again be sold on Tuesday for $1.00. Thursday is films when popcorn and drinks are sold for 50 cents. Friday is Mexican day where the children try to break the "piniatas." There will also be a contest for the largest hat. We will be baking that day also. There will be a jelly bean guess- ing contest throughout the week at 5 cents a guess and the winner will take home the jelly beans. All that and a lot more so come out and join the fun at Scugog Island Playground. PRINCE ALBERT by Pam, Sherri & Tina It's that time of year again where fresh fruits and vegetables are pop- ing up in the gardens. So we're hav- ing "Nutrition & Fitness Week." Believe me it's not as dull as it sounds. We'll be having a nutritious pot luck lunch on Wednesday and a party on Friday with vegetables and dip. You can prove your fitness ability to us on Friday at Play Day. So don't forget to bring nutritious lunches next week. But we will still be selling popcorn & a drink on Tuesday for 35 cents to go with the movie. As well as hot dogs and drinks on Friday. Registration is welcome at 'anytime. Don't forget your swim suits on Thursdays. Many thanks to everyone who supported us in our car wash. It was a great success. But we still need your support in our Cake Raffle. Last week was, Holiday Week, we 'had Valentines Day, Easter, Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas all rolled into one week. Our Halloween Day on Thursday - was a great success. We had a lip- sink concert staring Madonna (Cor- inne White) and Kiss. Friday was topped off with swim- ming on Christmas Day and playing pass the present, winners being Cor- ynn Johns and Alechia Cracknell. This week is Health & Safety Week. The kids will sample nutri- tional food and learn how to handle emergency situations and they will make up emergency number stickers. This week we are starting our se- cond fund-raising event, a walk-a- thon! So all you kids get those run- ning shoes ready for the big day. "Keep selling those tickets!" Your end of the summer trip is waiting. Also, we would like to thank all of those who supported us by purchasing tickets! This week is Talent & Friendship week. We have planned a trip to McDonald's for a tour and also a balloon release.
