i i { i } | ! b i 4 3 CT Gis vy i Call it de ja vu, or fate, or just plain coincidence, but whatever the term, two Greenbank teens are just plain happy that i. happened to You see... 16 years ago, two women, complete strangers, each gave birth to baby girls at Scar- borough's Centenary Hospital. One child was born on August 23, 1970, and named Heidi Meisner. The other, named Delena Carriere, was born three days later on August 26. The two new mothers were in rooms two doors away from each other and became aquainted. As Mrs. Meisner had a photographer friend, pictures were taken of the two girls as they lay side by side in the nursery. When the two women were - discharged from the hospital, each carried their bundles of joy home and thought no more about the encounter. Eleven years ago, the Meisners moved from their home in West Hill to Greenbank. After several moves of their own, the Carriere family . made the transition from Oshawa to Greenbank in 1984. After a fourteen-year separation, the two girls were re-united. Delena and Heidi became friends, and as young teens, started the usual rapport of where are you from...where were you born...when is your birthday. The duo soon learned of the cir- cumstances of their birth and could not believe the fate that had brought them together again. The girls celebrated their 15th birthdays together last year, and wanted to do something special to celebrate big number 16. So they threw a "Sweet Sixteen" party last Saturday at the Greenbank Community Centre. The Port Perry High School students have been involved with the S.A.D.D. (Students Against Drunk Driving) program at the school, and as Heidi put it..." If you really believe in something like S.A.D.D. as we do, you don't put it aside just because it is summer vacation." The party was a bash. Everyone came formally dressed and danced the night away to the music of a disc jockey. There was one catch however. There was absolutely no booze, or diugs, and from what this reporter saw no one cared. They were just a bunch of kids having lots of fun...good clean fun. Happy Birthday Heidi and Delena!
