The sum- . mer is finally over, and the halls of PPHS are ful of acti* ity. We would also like to welcome the new and returning teachers: Mr. Boyd, Mr. Scuse, Mrs. Prentice, Mr. Burnett, Mr. Robirison, Mr. Stillwell, Mr. & Mrs. Fisher, Mr. Hooper, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Steele, and of course our new principal, Mr. Morrison, and the entire 1985 staff. . Now for the news. The music pro- gram is in full swing with try-outs for the numerous bands, choirs and jazzmerize during lunch hours in the music rooms. Volleyball try-outs for midgets, juniors and senior boys started last week. Basketball try-outs for all girls teams were also held last week with teams to be selected in the up- MACKEY & BAILEY BARRISTERS & SOLICITORS coming week. Boys soccer is off to a quick start with the team being picked and their first game to be played next week. Girls field hockey will begin next week. Many other clubs are beginning to organize now: library club, cadets, newspaper, drama, so let's see everyone get involved. Many grade 9's have been spotted desperately trying to find their classes this past week - but not to worry - things will get better, Some students are busy changing their schudules in Student Services; if there are any timetable problems at all, Student Services are the ones to go to. The Soc Hop on Friday at lunch hour was a huge success - a bit warm, but it was great to dance the noon away. Class Representative elections will be tak- ing place on Thursday and the first full council meeting of the year will be held the following week. Student 'Council were also the mysterious apple-givers to all teachers, secretaries and custodians on the - first day of school. The apples were well received - and dee-licious! Initiation is coming up on September 19 and plans are fast be- ing drawn-up for this exciting event! Student Activity cards will be on sale very soon for the low 1985 price of $5.00. The cards afford discounts for school dances, school jackets, school rings and yearbooks, etc. Interschool Athletic Cards are on sale this week for $15. These are necessary if students wish to play on any school team. The cards can be purchased in front of the office at lunch hour. So Rebels! Handy phone pamphlets for everyone, free Have you ever needed an impor- tant phone number in a hurry and could not find it, or you didn't even know where to start looking in the book? Well, Scugog Community Care has a pamphlet that will help. The organization has produced a handy pamphlet that contains dozens of phone numbers which Scugog Township residents will find useful. The pamphlet is the perfect reference to keep tacked by the phone or inside the phone book for quick reference. The Information Scugog Branch of Community Care prepared the pamphlet which is available free of charge to the general public. You can pick one up at the Community Care office at 208 North St., in Port Perry. But there were only 1500 printed and it's first come first served. Community Care administrator "said the cost of the pamphlets (about $240) used to be covered by a government grant. But that was dis-continued. The funds this year had to come from the organization's general budget.
