To Ringette players and their families the trye sign that fall has-arrived comes with the sound of skates be- ing sharpened and the regular trips to the Scugog Arena. Parents <it shivering in the stands watching those energetic young ladies pass, Senior Rebels win tournament On Saturday, September 20th, P.P.H.S. Rebels Sr. Volleyball Team travelled to Pickering for the day to play in their annual tournament. Firs. match they played Ajax High School and put them down to defeat 2 games straight. Port over- powered Ajax with offense and defense. Second match of the day Port gave up against a strong O'Neill team. Port was beaten at the net in this contest and lost 2-1 in the 3 match set. Next game they played host Pickering team and played strong and beat Pickering 2 games to 0. Port finished 2nd in their division and this put them into the playoffs against Eastdale High School, who was in the other division. Port handed Eastdale 2 straight losses. This put Port into the semi- finals against Clarke High School who finished first in their division. Port's dominating offense and good team defense, han. ed Clarke a quick 2 game defeat. Port entered the championship game, ready to go as they faced Pickering again. Port proved again team offense and good team defense was the key to vicotry s Port beat Pickering 2 games to 0 for the championship. A good team effort was put in by everyone. Strong offense was pro- vided by Mike Ward, Craig Menzies & Paul Goreski. Defense was very well played by Jeff Ireland, Scott West, Dave Culbert, Robt. Baker, Dave Burnett & Lee Wilber. Coaching is the logical & very sophisticated John Reed. The Seniors are looking for more vic- tories on the road to the High School Championships. Sunnybrae champs Congratulations to the club cham- pions at Sunnybrae for 1986. The competition was keen and very well attended. Champions were - Grand Cham- pion (Low Gross) - Mike McQuade, Senior Men (Low Gross) - Bob Bet- son, Ladies (Low Gross) - Leona Tripp, Junior (Low Gross) - Brad Menzies, Men (Low Net) - Bert Sud- dard, Ladies (Low Net) - Ann Meester, Junior (Low Net) - Tie - BOAT & CAR STORAGE & REPAIRS Steve Conners & Stacy Ballingal. The following week we had our cross country and pork roast. The response was overwhelming and everyone had a super day. Team winners were: Trudy Em- pringham, Butch Latta, Karen Parish and Bruce Haugen. This year we have 50 "plus' girls registered to play with lots of room for more, par- ticularly age 12 and older. As with all organized sports, there is a great deal of planning done by executive members, coaches.and managers before the girls actually see the ice. We would like to start this year by thanking all those people involved in any way with the Port Perry Ringette Association. Many people give a great deal of their time to en- sure that the season will be a success. Ringette is officially scheduled to begin on Saturday, September 27, 1986. Novice girls from 12-1 p.m., Petite B&C from 1-2 p.m. and Tweens and Juniors from 2-3 p.m. All girls will be contacted by their coaches to confirm these and future ice times. The Fund Raising Committee has been busy planning various events to help raise money for the coming season. We hope that all of the parents involved will support these 'projects and events throughout the year to make them a success. We really need you! October 25, 1986 is the annual Craft and Bake Sale at the Port Perry High School. Parents will be asked for baked goods only, this ~ year, so dig out your best recipes. Notification of other upcoming events will be provided at a later date. We look forward to your con- tinued support for the 1986-87 season.
