Deborah Marshall, of "the Women's Desk" at United Church of Canada headquarters, 85 St. Clair Avenue, Toronto, is the Na- tional co-ordinator for women's Stitchery | Guild The Durham Stitchery Guild is starting their second year. They would welcome everyone who is in- terested in any form of stitchery, to attend their meetings. You can then decide if you would like to become a member. Dolores has created many exciting and in- novative pieces of needlework. Her main forte is needlepoint and crewel. The Stitchery Guild is looking for new members who are seasoned stitchers and interested in sharing their knowledge as well as new members who are interested in stit- chery and have done very little * stitching. A varied program, with tentative workshops, is planned for the com- ing year. From these we can learn in depth some new techniques and have our creative abilities challeng- ed and enhanced so that we are prepared to try some of our own ideas and see the interesting results of our labours Come all you stitching en- thusiasts, or would be enthusiasts, join with us and grow with us into a happy stitching community. We will all learn from each other. For further information telephone 571-2206. groups in the United Church. Hospital auxiliary off on another full season by Luella Graham On September 15 the Port Perry Community Hospital Ladies Aux- iliary held their first meeting of the fall and winter activities. In the absence of the president Mary Cannon, Elaine opened the meeting with all repeating the Aux- iliary prayer, and then welcomed all: and hoped we had a good summer holiday and came back with lots of enthusiasm for our fall and winter activities. Elaine then welcomed our new member Mrs. L. Ross. Mr. Brown was then asked to speak, and he told us that a new x- "ray machine will have to be pur- chased, as it has been years since the present one was bought. Also a telephone system would be a benefit to all patients and staff. All the officers then gave their reports. We were also told that their is a great need for more adult volunteers. So anyone who can give of their time to this worthy cause will be indeed appreciated. Hazel Coates, wool convener, has more wool to give out and I must say we had a beautiful lot of knitted goods turned in, such as sweaters, baby outfits, mitts, toques and other things on display. Some people sure kept the knitting needles going all summer. For these articles we do - say a "Big Thankyou' to one and all. Elaine then introduced to us Leena Demmers, physio therapist, who gave us a most interesting talk on the effects of bad posture, especially to people who are aging. Under new business there was much to discuss. On October 17 there will be a pie and woollen items sale being held at the front of the hospital at 12 o'clock noon. Also the fall conference is being held on Oc- tober 7 at Kingsview United Church, Oshawa. The meeting then adjourned and lunch was served. The next meeting will be Monday, October 20 at 1:30 p.m. and we would be very pleased to see any lady who might like to come. Patrick G.
