Council endorses outdoor rink idea The proposal to build a skating rink this winter on the former lawn bowling green on Queen Street mov-. ed a step closer to reality Monday afternoon when members of Township council said they have no objections to the idea. In last week's issue of the Port Perry Star, editor John McClelland suggested in his Viewpoint column that the former bowling green would make an excellent spot for an open air rink. He also said he would be willing to try and co-ordinate efforts by citizen volunteers to flood the area and keep the rink clear of snow dur- ing the winter months. Mr. McClelland told councillors that the reponse tc that suggestion has been tremendous with numerous people volunteering to help any way they can. Councillors agreed with the idea and suggested that the front porch of the bowling club house might be used with benches for putting on skates. Mr. McClelland said he is keeping a list of people who have agreed to help and will arrange a meeting of these volunteers some time in the near future to kick around ideas for the skating rink. The lawn bowling green on Queen Street is owned by the Township. If any citizen would like to help with this winter project, contact Mr. McClelland at the Port Perry Star office. ns om---------------- ---- " ti ae ein. A nn Liisi lb du BR PTT ame
