10 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Wednesday, October 15, 1986 Antique pews are to be sold as fundraiser Greenbank and Area News by Betty Stone Friday, Nov. 17th, the date for the Greenbank Women's Institute bus tour will soon be here. Anyone wishing to book a seat, should phone Betty Stone 985-7712 as soon as The bus will leave Greenbank Church parking lot at9a.m. togo to Ontario Science Centre, Toronto, then on to Cullen Barns in the after- noon and back to Greenbank by 6 p.m. The Greenbank Hall Committee plans to sell the majority of old church pews that are no longer be- ing used. To anyone interested from this community who is interested in purchasing one of these antique pieces, they are now available at $75 for small pews and $150 for large ones. Sales will be made on a first come -- first served basis, then, on Nov. 15th, there will be a viewing for other interested parties. For further information contact Cathy Galberg 985-8351. We are trying to raise money for some larger renovation to keep the hall to proper rental standard. There will be a Halloween Party at Greenbank Hall on Monday, Oct. 27th from 1 to 3 p.m. This is a P.A. day for the children. We will be featuring a puppet show of kids' favourite characters from Sesame Street. There will be lots of games, good food to eat, and prizes for the best costumes, so all you kids, 10 and under, get those costumes started and come, join the fun. Ad- mission will be $1 per child or $3 per family of three or more children. Greenbank Children's Theatre Workshop will be meeting for the first time of this new season on Sun- day, Oct. 19th from 7to 9 p.m. at the Community Hall. Anyone interested in joining this group to participate in any aspect of amateur theatrical recreation is' asked to contact George Rizsanyi 985-2294. Neil and Jean Hunter, entertain- ed nineteen family members from Guelph, Prince Albert, Uxbridge and Greenbank area for Thanksgiv- ing dinner on Sunday. Mrs. Howard McMillan visied at the home of her granddaughter Susan and Harry Grygiel, Newmarket on Sunday where Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hood of Valentia celebrated their 40th Wedding "Anniversary. Sympathy of the community is ex- tended to a well-known former Greenbank Church sanctuary was decorated with flowers and fruits of the season on Sunday morning as a large crowd of worshippers gathered to praise and thank God for their many blessings. Plowmen hold match On Monday, September 8th, the annual plowing match, sponsored by the Region of Durham, Rama and Mara Plowmen's Association, was held at the farm of Vyse Westcott, R.R. 3, Beaverton. A total of 28 contestants took part in the day's program. This number included three in the Mayors and Reeves class which was won by Russell Cooper of Washago. Mr. Cooper is the Reeve of Rama Township. The Queen of the Furrow for the next year is Doreen Catherwood, - daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Catherwood, R.R. 2, Uxbridge. Doreen will participate in the Queen of the Furrow contest at the Inter- national Plowing Match, which will be held at Stirling in Hastings Coun- ty from September 16th to 20. There was no class for horse plow- ing this year. The winners in the tractor classes are as follows: CLASS 2 Contestants ages 12, 13, 14: 1st- Barry DeGeer, R.R. 3, Mount Albert. On Monday, Mrs. Hazel Medd of Port Perry and Mrs. Elaine Rainey of Whitby called on Howard and Ruth Ashton, who celebrated their 52nd Wedding An- niversary last week. Marie and Earl Wilson had Thanksgiving dinner Sun. evening for all their family and Marie's mother Mrs. W.0. Simpson of Uxbridge. Rev. Richard Lewchuk, Joyce and children were weekend guests with Earl and Mrie and left after supper for Mon. evening for their home in Wiarton. Ruby Wilson was also a supper guest. The Alan Cards had Thanksgiving dinner Sat. evening when most of their family were able to be home. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Jones of Glen Major had Sun. supper with the Baster family. Julie was home from Guelph for the weekend. Walter and Elva Kerry had all their family home for the weekend. Earl and Elizabeth Taylor were pleased to be able to entertain most of their family, including Mr. Jack Evans of Cameron over the holiday. Mrs. Hansen and Carl joined a family Thanksgiving dinner at the home of her son Jim and his wife Marie at Cannington on Sat. The speaker at the Women's In- stitute will be Ruth from Artistic Beauty Salon, Uxbridge who will speak to us about "Colours" Oct. 22 at 8 p.m. Mrs. Doris Armstrong and Tom held Thanksgiving on Mon. Guests were Doris' father Howard Gourlie Sr., her brother Howard and his wife Helen of Oshawa, Kurt and Tracy Roane, Jim and Faye Gourlie, Nor- man and Susan. Ted and Joanne Redshaw of Ux- bridge entertained Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ross for Thanksgiving.
