aii 24 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, October 21, 1986 we ¢ i po As beautiful as the sunshine was on Sunday, the falling leaves and the cold quiet waters of Lake Scugog revealed an approaching winter. Still, a few warmly dressed folks hit Port Perry's govern- ment dock for what may be the last chance at a little fishing before the ice sets in. Pee Wee A's tie with Hawks On Friday, October 17 the Pee Wee A Legion team hosted the Oshawa Black Hawks in our 4th pre- season exhibition game. The Legion team started off strong and left the Black Hawks scrambling in the 1st period. Our on- ly goal in this period was scored by Kenny Winslow with assists going to Jan Heyes and Jason Cochrane. In the 2nd period Jeff Parry scored on a pass from Mark An- drews. This was followed by 2 Oshawa goals to end the 2nd period tied 2-2. In the 3rd period Mark Andrews plunked one in on a pass from Dan- ny Sluggett to give us control of the game. With only 19 seconds remain- ing Oshawa was awarded a penalty shot and scored to end the game tied 3-3. The team is showing a lot of pro- mise and under the excellent coaching staff of Garry Geer, Ed Teno, Jim Burnett and manager George Legere, should have a good season. Along with these coaches Chic Carnegie and John Moore will be assisting the team practices. In net for the 1986-87 season are Shawn Larocque and Brian Madill and in front of these very capable goalies are Stephen Laird, Chris Forder, Brett Puckrin *'C"', Jason Towns "A". All of our goals were scored on power plays and both teams were equal on penalty minutes which cer- tainly shows that the team is show- ing good offense and defense. Bantams outscore the exhibition competition The Port Perry Goreski Insulation Bantams have got off to a fast start winning 4 and tying 2 of the 6 exhibi- tion games they have played. In do- ing this they have outscored the op- position 31-23. This years edition of the Goreskis has a good combination of size and speed. This combination should lead to a successful year for the boys. The Bantams open league play this Wednesday night hosting a usually strong Cobourg club. They then travelled to Port Hope for a Saturday evening encounter. Game time this Wednesday and every Wednesday is 7:45. Give yourself a treat by watching this exciting team try to defend yet another All-Ontario Championship. This year's team has 3 holdovers from last year, Brad Bricknell in goal, Clair Cornish on defence and Milce Gorley at forward, Derek Fit- zgerald, Kevin Gibson, Brian Ap- pleby, Paul Allen, Paul Wylie and Chris McConnell move up from last years Bantam No.2 team. Sean Bradbury, Graham Sullivan, Jarvett Harman and Chris Legere move up after playing for last years Pee Wee team. Jason Weinhold joins the team from Bantam House League and Todd Taylor comes to Port after playing for last years All- Ontario Champions in Little Britain. This should be a very exciting year and the players are looking for- ward to it.
