Don Daynard, seen here with three Port Perry fans, from left, Patsy Cottrell, popular morning man and host of the Saturday night's "Looking Back" show. The birthday par- ty was prepared by the Food and Beverage Management Students and Staff at Durham College. Carol Luke and Nancy Hvidsten, is CKFM's (From page 1) vegetation. Second to this, but of recognized importance, was the ex- amination of water depth within the lake. The report indicates Lake Scugog to be a shallow, nutrient-rich lake, ideal for the growth of aquatic vegetation which has resulted in problems for boaters, anglers and swimmers, as well as detracting from the general aesthetics of the lake. "The vast majority of residents find the aquatic vegetation unaccep- table and many are considering moving because of it,"' responded the task force. The report also noted the water depth has ap ease due to the deposition of organic matter on the bottom of the lake. With the proliferation of Eurasian water milfoil, this deposition has, ac- celerated causing a shallow water depth that interferes with boating and is further accentuated as the summer season progresses and the evaporation losses increase from the lake surface. The 16 recommendations made by the task force were: -- The Kawartha Region Conserva- tion Authority be considered as the agency appropriate for the im- plementation' of the management plan for Lake Scugog and that the K.R.C.A. be requested, through the Task Force Chairman, to accept responsibility for the management plan implementation. -- A public information program on Lake Scugog and its management be developed and implemented. -- An office be established in Port Perry for purposes of disseminating information to the public and carry- ing forth field management pro- grams on the lake. -- Environment Canada-Parks (Trent-Severn-Waterway) annually maintain their navigation channels through a program of chemical her- bicide treatment. -- All recognized public launching docks be maintained free of aquatic vegetation through a program of chemical herbicide treatment. -- The management co-ordinating agency (the K.R.C.A.) carry out the Weed task force report program of chemical herbicide treatment at all recognized public launching docks. -- The management co-ordinating agency (the K.R.C.A.) provide assistance to marina operators and lakeshore property owners in the chemical control of aquatic vegeta- tion along their section of the lake. -- Environment Canada-Parks review the need for additional buoys to the Lake Scugog portion of the Trent-Severn-Waterway navigation channel in order to more clearly define the channel. -- Dredging should be considered as warranted for launch sites, dock sites or swimming areas and co- ordinated by the management co- ordinating agency (the K.R.C.A.). -- Environment Canada-Parks con- tinue present operating practices at the Lindsay Dam in order to minimize water loss during the sum- mer boating season. -- Environment Canada-Parks delay lake level drawdown until after Thanksgiving in order that early autumn rainfall might (Turn to page 7 Early Bird Specials!
