On Monday, November 10 the Canadian Tire Midget 2's did battle with Bewdley Midgets, with the tiremen winning 7-3. After both teams played a hectic close checking a scoreless first period, the Canadian Tire boys ~ Details were sketchy at press time but mid- afternoon on Monday, this car collided with a small pick-up truck in front of the Kin-Scout Hall quickly scored three goals off the sticks of David Irvine, Eric Donma and Blair Phillips with Keith Roberge and Irvine adding assists. Then Bewdley came back late in the second period and added two for themselves, with the second period at the corner of Lilla and Paxton Streets. At least Port Legionnaires reach semi-finals at Wasaga On Friday, November 21 the Port Perry Pee Wee Legionnaires played the Oshawa Blackhawks in a league game and lost 6 to 3. Port worked very well in the first period and Brett Puckrin opened the scoring with a good backhand shot after a nice pass from Jeff Parry. Less than a minute later Mark An- drews scored again for Port with the assists going tv Jody Logan and John Collins. However, with less than 3 minutes to go Oshawa scored their first goal and continued their scoring streak with 4 more goals in the second period. Port did not score again until 19 seconds were left in the game and Jeff Parry found the net after a good passing play by Brett Puckrin and Jason Cochrane. Port had a big weekend at Wasaga Beach when they par- ticipated in the Wasaga Beach Silver Stick Tournament. They played 2 games on Saturday and were victorious in both. « The first game was against Penetang and the Legionnaires won 4tol. Jeff Parry opened the scoring with a high shot over the goaltender after receiving a well placed pass from defenceman Brett Puckrin. Jeff Parry again caught the Penetang goalie off guard with a shot in the top corner after Danny Sluggett had made the first attempt on the net. Penetang was able to get one quick one passed Port's goaltender while Port was short a player because of a penalty. However, Jason Cochrane came back with a blistering shot to the top corner and Jan Heyes picked up the assists. In the third period Jody Logan again put Port on the board when he picked up a pass from Danny Slug- gett who was working hard behind Penetang's net. Goaltenders Brian Madill and Shawn Larocque played well in net and Jeff Parry was awarded the MVP for the game. Port played late in the day against 'a team from Camp Borden and had a big 8 to 2 win. Both teams held off the scoring for the first 5 minutes of the game but then Port let loose with 3 fast goals. Jason Cochrane placed a high shot over the goaltenders shoulder and Brett Puckrin, Ken Winslow and Mark Andrews all assisted on the goal. This was a real team effort! Jeff Parry scored the Durham 4-H awards The Awards Presentation for the summer 4-H Clubs in Durham East was held on Friday, November 7th in Orono. The highlights of the evening were the presentation of the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (Bowmanville, Newcastle and Orono Branches) Awards to Marilyn Green, Blackstock and Brian Van Camp, Blackstock for their outstanding leadership to the 4-H Program over a number of years. Two leaders were also honoured with Canadian 4-H Council Cer- tificates for their leadership to the 4-H Program. Andy VanHamm, secretaries Joanne Smith, R.R. 1, bellcroft and Tracey Welsh, R.R. 4, Bowmanville. R.R. 4, Port Hope was recognized for five years service, while Jim Byers, Blackstock, was recognized for 10 years service. Brian Van Camp was also winner of the Ted Buttery Memorial Scholarship presented by the Durham Shorthorn Club. Each year there is a Competition open to all 4-H club secretaries and press reporters. The North Hope Farm Supplies presented the award to Faith Benschop, R.R. 4, Bowmanville; Camp- ending, Port ahead 3-2. In the third period it took Bewdley only two minutes to tie the game up. Port Perry tiremen then took over and quickly got the go-ahead goa off the stick of Blair Phillips, Bobby Orr assisting. one woman was sent to Community Memorial Hospital via ambulance. The damage to both vehicles was extensive. next one right between the goalies legs and again Brett Puckrin was in there setting it up to earn an assist. Jason Cochrane chalked up his se- cond goal with a quick shot in the top right corner and Ken Winslow and Brett Puckrin assisted. In the second period Camp Borden was able to score their first goal but Jason Cochrane was not long in earning his hat trick with another goal for Port. Jan Heyes and Mark Andrews earned the assists. Jeff Parry put in another Port goal with a high shot after Ken Winslow and Jason Towns had helped to set it up. In the third period Port kept up the pressure and Jan Heyes deeked the goalie to put the puck into the net after receiving the pass from Jason Cochrane. Jeff Parry earned his hat trick by scoring again for Port and the assists went to Jan Heyes and Danny Sluggett. Ken Winslow finished the Legionnaires slaughter when he caught a rebound shot from Jason Cochrane. The whole team played a great game and especial- ly Jason Cochrane who won himself the MVP for the game. Port played Sunday morning in the semi-final game against Bracebridge and came home the losers 5 to 2 in a hard fought game. Bracebridge outshot us 27 to 19 and outhit us badly. Mark Andrews was able to score for Port in the first period with the assist going to Brett Puckrin. Jan Heyes scored Port's second goal between the goaltenders legs with a fine unassisted effort. However, Bracebridge scored once in the first period and 2 more again in the second and third. Danny Sluggett played an excep- tional game and was chosen the MVP for the game. The boys all played well throughout the tournament and should be pleased with their efforts. Congratulations to the coaching staff of Gary Geer, George Legere and Ed Teno for their fine work with the boys in their first tournament showing. PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, November 25, 1986 -- 3) Port Midgets battle Bewdley for victory Jeff Oke then scored two back to back goals with help from Jamie Menzies and Orr. Blair Phillips worked the puck to the pointman Bobby Orr to Lenny May to Orr a whammo! the fourth goal. The final score 7-3 for the tiremen. Now the boys are on the road for the next four games, before return- ing Monday, November 24 against Newcastle at 9:15 p.m. I have no results of the Port Perry at Bowmanville game other than they played and lost. When I get the game sheet it will be in, On Monday, November 17 the Canadian Tire boys from Port Perry travelled to Orono, a come out on the short end losing 5-3. With Orono scoring early ii the first period, our boys were taken back a bit and couldn't pet themselves in the game after Oi ono built up their lead to 3-0 micway through the second period. Th s is when the Canadian Tire boys started to make noise on Jamie Menzies goal, with help from Keith Roberge and David Irvine after two periods of play it was 3-1 Orono. Eric Donma then put the tiremen within one before Orono added two more goals. John Lally and Keith Roberge added assists. David Irvine got the final goal with Mark Elliott and Menzies picking up assists. Final score 5-3 Orono. Here we are in Millbrook, and we added three players from the Ban-' tams 2's for this game, and they ac- counted for themselves. Then in the second period Mark Elliott blasted one from the blue line Eric Donma and Blair Phillips tic tac passing before dropping it back to Mark. 2-0 after two periods. Jeff Oke then scored making it 3-0 with David Irvine and Mark Elliott assisting. This came about before Millbrook added two of their own, making it close. Keith Roberge rounded out the scoring with Irvine and Orr picking up the assists. Final score 4-2 Canadian Tire Port Perry. On Saturday night the team from Port Perry travelled to Bewdley and came away with a 2-1 win. But not before a startled bunch of boys were dumb founded as Bewdley, right from the faceoff broke in and scored at .05 seconds in the first period. Oh Well. From then on every player pull- ed up his socks and checked the Bewdley team every time they came up with the puck. The boys killed quite a few penalties and they got themselves back in the game. With just one second left in the se- cond period Blair Phillips dropped a pass in front and Jamie Menzies made no mistake as he potted it home. This put Bewdley back on their heels as the period ended at 1-1. It took the Tiremen from Port Perry about six minutes into the third period to go in front 2-1 on a goal from Blair Phillips.
