Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Estar] Award Presentation At the Grand Chapter of Ontario Sessions of the Order of the Eastern Star, held in the Royal York Hotel, Toronto, in September, Miss Doreen Van Camp of Blackstock, was one of the recipients of an Estarl Award (150 students received Awards) sponsored by Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238 Order of the Eastern Star in On- tario, Port Perry. The purpose of Eastern Star Training Awards for Religi Leadership is to assist students in College or University, who have dedicated their lives to the spiritual service of mankind. It was a pleasure and an honour for Estar] Chairman of Blue Ray Ch * 7-3. Marjorie McCombe, on Sep.oaauer 21, 1986, on behalf of Blue Ray Chapter to make the presentation. Our very best wishes to Doreen Van Camp for success in her chosen field! Doreen is in her Third year at Emmanuel College. Blue Ray Chapter ~ Meeting & Christmas Party A fine number of members and guests attended the Blue Ray Chapter Christmas meeting and "gala' party on the evening of Dec. 11th, held in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry. Our new Worthy Matron Elsie Wilbur conducted the opening ceremonies in regular form ... with the able assistance of Past Patron Wilfred Alexander of Oshawa. All members and guests were given a warm, fraternal welcome by W.M. 'Elsie and P.P. Wilfred in the East. After the Flag was presented by Marshal Debby Davis and O Canada was sung ... reports were given and a brief business period ensued. Many goodies were taken to shut-ins ... sick ... and so forth ... under our Benevolent committee ... also chocolate bars were distributed to Nursing Home and Villa residents. After closing, members and guests retired to the lower Hall for a lively party with Carol Morrows at the piano and Karel Nottingham leading the singing of the Christmas Carols. Soon ... Santa came bounc- ing in ... a jolly old elf ... and distributed the exciting gifts. * Lovely holiday refreshments were served buffet style by convener Marg Jeffrey with Joyce Storry, Debby Davis, Paula Copithorn, Pauline Pavlik and Noreen Trudel assisting. As a fund raiser ... Marilyn Jones convened a white elephant table. Sales were brisk and a goodly sum was raised for the treasury. Allan and Noreen have 4 sons, 14 grandchildren and 7 great- grandchildren. Guests attended from Port Perry, Oshawa, Whitby, Pickering, - Midland, Windsor, Florida and New Brunswick. They received greetings from Queen Elizabeth II, Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, Premier David Peterson, Mayor Jerry Taylor and M.P.P. Sam Cureatz. Mr. and Mrs. Bertrand were mar- ried in Oshawa. They are long-time residents of Port Perry. Recipient of Estarl award wheelchair, tripod cane, walkers, crutches, canes etc. for the use of you and yours.
