He said the Caribbean theme of last summer's Festival Days prov- ed very popular with local mer- chants, residents and visitors alike and the same theme will be carried on for at least another summer, possibly two. The Chamber of Commerce donated money for weed spraying in . Lake Scugog last year, will pay half of a full page ad in the Central On- tario Travel Guide this year, and will start working on an updated version of the Scugog Township brochure. Mr. Hvidsten said the cost of 5,000. copies of this new 'brochure. will be about $10,000. The previous brochures, printed in 1982, proved very popular and virtually all the 10,000 copies are gone now. And one of the most ambitious projects undertaken by the organization is the purchase and in- stallation of Victorian-style decorative street lighting for the business area of Port Perry. Mr. Hvidsten said the new lights, along with benches and new gar- bage containers will be installed this "year. The total cost of this project, including installation, is estimated at $34,000 with Scugog Township sharing about $10,000 of this amount. In concluding his remarks, Mr. Hvidsten paid tribute to the ex- ecutive, directors and others who worked on projects over the last couple of years. "OTHER BUSINESS Bill Barr, a former president of the Chamber, will assume new "duties as secretary-treasurer, tak- ing over from Earl Cuddie, who is stepping down this year after seven years as secretary. Mr. Cuddie was presented with a plaque at the meeting last week in appreciation for his service to the organization. The financial report tabled at the meeting shows the organization has "improved its cash position over the previous year (from $14,000 to $22,000) thanks mainly to a Festival Days profit of about $8800.
