Youth training at Y Probably the most important job a teen-ager will ever have is that of baby-sitting. Unfortunately we sometimes let our children begin to care for other children without any training. The YMCA in Port Perry 1s encouraging all those youths (12 years or older) to register for our Baby-Sitting Training Course. This course was designed bY the Durham Region Lung Association and is being offered in both Port Perry and Blackstock. The program emphasizes the practical skills and knowledge necessary to be a respon- sible baby-sitter. Films and guest speakers further the student's knowledge in certain key areas. Special evenings feature the Fire Dept. speaking on fire safety and what to do in emergency situations. St. John's Ambulance also give our baby-sitters a working knowledge of First Aid procedures in case of an accident or sudden illness. The program also stresses that baby-sitting is not Simple work but a job that calls for special skills Parents who leave a teen in charge of their home and their children ex- pect dependable. responsible care \ second training program available for Teens is our Leaders in-Tramning Course This is a Na- tional YMCA program designed to prepare youth for a leadership role in physical education, outdoor skills and recreation. Regular meetings will be held on Wednesday evenings at the 'Y' Centre and students will be expected to accept responsibili- ty for teaching youth classes through the 'Y" as part of their in- service training.
