30 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, January 27, 1987 by Bruce Luke Conditions were certainly not ideal as 22 members of the Port Perry Snowmobile Club set out Saturday morning for a 2 day ride. Most riders met at the home of ride organizer Marion Lee and then proceeded up the lake and river, picking up fellow travellers along the way, til the trail was picked up again just north of Seagrave. All went well only as far as the 6th Concession when one of the brand new machines (it hadn't even travelled 100 km yet) conked out. All attempts to revive it were in vain and it was left in the village of Cresswell at the home of an oblig- ing resident. (Thank you for your co- operation). This meant that one cou- The Pee Wee A Legionnaires won their first play-off game with a 12-1 romp over Port Hope on Friday, January 23 in the first round, best three out of five series. Upon arrival the bride of 35 years received a lovely corsage of roses and the groom a white carnation by their only daughter Bonnie Reid. After supper their grandchildren presented them with cards and a sum of money. They also received a beautiful plaque from the brides sister and family and a beautiful set of dishes from their friends. They - were also presented with a lovely cake which was brought in by six BE -- If you hear Turn it over to the pros! ple now had to ride * 'double." Oh, those aching muscles! A brief stop was made in Wood- ville for refueling and a snack, then back to the trails. At this point we were travelling the trails maintain- ed by the Heart of Ontario Snowmobile Club. We found them to be well marked and quite easy to follow so the trip to Fenelon Falls area went quite smooth. Well, almost smooth if we'd had a little . MOre SNOW. However trail leader, Ralph Lee did an excellent job and got us to the Stone Fountain Motel at Rosedale around 3 p.m. After Marion's fancy snow roll in the ditch just before the motel, we understand Ralph is fashioning a roll bar: for her this ing the first goal in an unassisted, short-handed effort. The second goal was scored by Jason Cochrane from Brett Puckrin. With Steve Staniland and Jason Towns assisting, Jan Heyes popped in his second of the lovely waitressess singing Happy Anniversary. The balance of the evening was 'spent at the Corral by the happy couple and some of their friends.. A few, still not satisfied with enough riding, head- ed out for a short ride in the area, and guess what? One of the machines now had to be towed back "on the end of a long rope. Guess it was trying to tell Mike it had had enough for the day. He tell us he thinks it would make a nice planter on his lawn but wife Sandra is looking for something "new" to ride. Wonder who'll win this discussion? PeeWee's take series lead night. With less than two minutes re- maining Mark Andrews took a pass from Brett Puckrin and skated the length of the ice to score the Legion- naire's fourth goal of the game. The second period was Port Perry all the way as the boys put three more on the scoreboard on goals by Jeff Parry from Dan Sluggett and Jody Logan, Jason Cochrane from Jan Heyes, and Brett Puckrin on a shot from the blue line. After an excellent supper served by Mike Terrat at the Stone Foun- tain Restaurant, our guides from the Club arrived and proceeded to lead us to their club house at Burnt River. Again, due to poor snow condi- tions, it was a somewhat bumpy ride, and we now had 2 couples riding "'double,"" but the scenery we ° travelled through was just beautiful. Following hot chocolate and conver- sation at the clubhouse we headed back to the motel, tired and weary. Sunday merning saw many dan- cing for joy when they looked out their windows to see all that white stuff covering the ground and more of it still falling In her eagerness to get started, Marion was even seen shovelling the sidewalk in front of the restaurant to try and get him to open early for breakfast. Two members who had trailered their machines up decided to ride "home with us since conditions had Snowmobilers enjoy 2-day outing improved so much, so .their machines were unloaded and Mike's "sick" machine was loaded in their place. Last we saw of Mike he was headed south on Hwy. 35 in a nice warm car but with a tear in his eye. It was sure a super ride home, Mike! With about 6 inches of snow cover- ing everything, leader Ralph head- ed home following many back roads and side cuts that he knew. Within the hour we were back at Woodville, refueling and snacking again before the final jaunt back to Marion's place. Several riders continued on down to the clubhouse for supper to end the weekend's ride. About 200 km were travelled and I know all are eager for the next trip. Marion is planning another to the Bobcaygeon area on Feb: 21-22 and she has a sign-in list posted at the clubhouse so anyone interested, get your name down early. Snowmobilers, doh't forget your trail permits, and think snow! Bell scores 4 goals On January 25th the Allens Siding 'Tweens travelled to Ennismore for a victory of 9-0.
