Blackstock Agricultural Society attended the annual meeting held in the Recrea- tion Centre. Following a warm welcome by President Linda McLaughlin and Grace by David Petrie, all enjoyed a delicious pot- luck dinner. Following dinner, Linda gave her Presidents remarks in which she thanked all the countless workers for making our 1986 Fair a success in spite of the bad weather on Fair Day. The guest speaker for the evening awas George Dunbar of Scarborough who showed a great collection of slides taken over the years at Blackstock Fair. These pic- tures kept his audience's attention with the wide variety of views of the annual event. Rika Wygerde presented George with a floral gift of appreciation. George, in turn, presented the ~ Fair Board with a framed picture in appreciation for the great fairs over the years. : Treasurer Joyce Kelly presented the financial report which showed a balance plus the Saving certificates. Each committee chairman gave his 'report which reflected the effect of rain on Fair Day. Plans were made to attend the 0.A.A.S. Convention in Toronto on Fely 18th and 19th, in the Royal York Hotel. ' It was pointed out with interest that Vice President Dale Van Camp is following a great tradition as he ~ will be a fourth generation Presi- dent when he reaches that position- his father Merril Van Camp, his grandfather Percy Van Camp and "his great grandfathers W.A. Van Camp and John Wright were all Presidents of this Society. Following the motion of adjourn- 'ment all members went home with plans for another Blackstock Fair on August 29. Nancy Green enjoyed spending Jan. 25th to 31st in Ottawa with the programme Encounters with Canada. Eighty-five young people aged 15-17 from all across Canada (except Alberta whose students were all having examinations) spent the week at the Terry Fox Youth Centre. The week was spent study- ing Science and Technology with many guests giving lectures. ' The 'young people enjoyed several tours of Ottawa. The annual get-away fom it all weekend, enjoyed by a number of the local young married couples this past weekend at the beautiful Baldwins at Windermere. ' George and Brenda Bryant and Chris enjoyed a weekend of winter activities at their sister's cottage new Irondale. ; Neil and Eleanor Werry attended the funeral of Mrs. Cora McNaught in the St. John's Anglican Church in Ida near Cavan last Monday. . Our thoughts are with three of our residents who are very ill -- David McLean at home, Mrs. Rhoda Larmer and Bob Holliday, both in hospital. Wishes for improved health goes to you all. Floor Hockey Results: Jan. 27th. There are now two divisions- Senior 10-14 years with the Cart- wright Canadiens (Maroon) and Blackstock Bruins (Black) and the Junior 'Division with Cartwright Flyers and Blackstock North Stars. In the Senior Division the Bruins defeated the Canadiens 9-4 with Martin Stubbs 3, Mike Hepburn 2 Jay Buma 2, Mike Leach 1, Ja on Cliff 1, scoring for the winners and Brendon Agnew 3 and Kendall ~ Chorostecki 1 scoring for the losers. In the Junior division Flyers defeated the North Stars 4-3. Tom- my Waters scored all 4 goals for the winners with Ryan Peter, Luke Car- naghan and Brenda Tromans each _ scoring 1 goal for the North Stars. At the weekly card party on Tues. evening, there were 7 tables with the following winners: Meta Swain, Nerta Masters, Gladys Potts, Kathleen Watts, Ella Venning, Richard Manns with Albert Watts as low. Draws were won by Percy Van Camp, Albert Watts and J. Poots. At the recent Intermediate Public Speaking Contest at CCPS, nine pupils delivered excellent speeches. Winners were declared as: 1. Feb. 4th, the "Head" UCW will meet at the home of Mrs. Marylyn Heayn at 8 p.m. The same day, but in the afternoon, the "Grace" UCW will meet at the Island United at 2 p.m. Next Sun. will be Communion Day at the Island' United. | It was noted that some reports are not in to Miss Bolton yet. What is the problem? There should be lots of groun- dhogs running around on this mild and cloudy day looking for their shadow -- I'm sure we don't mind if they are unsuccessful. If that means anything. . Mrs. Mabel Strong of Prince Albert but formerly of the Island has been in hospital again for a con- siderable time. We trust she will soon feel stronger.
