Lesley Lafontaine started the business on her own in December (after trying it first with a partner) after taking an interior decorating course at Durham College and working on friend's homes. Her friends were thoroughly im- pressed with het sense of design and her work, and repeatedly told her she should be doing it for a living. After awhile she told herself, ""Yeah, I could do this," and began the process of starting a business. Not a decorating store, Lesley Ann Interiors is a service that allows clients to do their decorating shopping in the privacy of their own home. Mrs. Lafontaine will visit a customer any time of day and bring various samples of paint, wallpaper or fabric -- anything a person might require in order to redecorate. One of the biggest benefits of look- ing at samples in your own home is lighting, Mrs. Lafontaine says. Col- ours in a store can look radically dif- ferent once they're placed under the light of 'a home. : "'Lighting is really, really impor- tant when you're decorating," she emphasizes. ER Although many of her custome simply buy the materials from her (most of which are St. Clair pro- ducts, sold at current St. Clair prices), some people prefer to have Lesley Ann Interiors do the work. Mrs. ontaine works with a painter, a person who does wallpapering and a seamstress who alters drapes, all of whom can be called in to do the actual work of redecorating. - She had originally started. doing the work herself, but found she was too busy to do consultations (which are free to the customer), as well as the redecorating. "Actually, I'm quite amazed at "how busy I have been,'" she says. - 'Which is no problem because it's a job she really enjoys. "I love it. Just the excitement of doing someone else's home!"
