I was thoroughly prepared to rip it apart and analyze every possible thing wrong with it. May I never be judgemental of anything before 1 have a chance to see it. The only problem I found was Sylvester Stallone, the man himself. I suppose he has every right to call himself an actor, what with 'numerous films to his credit which have grossed millions at the box- office, but his mumbling has got to go. Why, if I hadn't known what to expect I would have been totally lost during the unfolding of the plot. The one thing that truly saves "Rocky IV"' from being blown apart by my pessimistic nature is the big fight scene, typical of every Rocky picture, at the conclusion. I found myself, much to my chagrin, cheer- ing and hollering for Rocky to win against an undefeated Russian box- | ing champion. I certainly don't want you to think for one minute that I am anti- Russian because I feel that the Rus- sians, as should be felt by all, are or- dinary people like us and not the menaces that television and film have made them out to be, although the Russian boxer, Ivan Drago, is inhuman. Co Man versus machine is an underlying theme of the film. Drago uses new technology to prepare him for the big fight, not that he really needs to prepare himself because he already killed Apollo Creed, Rocky's friend and Rocky's 5 predecessor in the boxing ring, and he could certainly do it to Rocky. Rocky uses Russian wilderness to help him get ready for the final con- frontation which is to, be held in Russia. He shows us that technology is not necessary in some instances. To parallel the original Rocky film, where our here runs up a flight of stairs and jumps around in victory, Rocky runs up a mountain and yells his head off. 1 . ~-When the final confrontation oc- curs Rocky turns the Russian crowd - around and they begin to cheer for him while he, in turn, changes his ~ © attitude about them. The best part of the film occurs when Rocky, after defeating the Russian, cries to the crowd, "If you can change, and I can change, everybody can change!" He puts it plain and simple and expresses what everyone should think-we are all equal. That, my friends, is what life is all about.
