Whitby Auto Wreckers 3 Port Perry Lions 2 Mike Tripp played an excellent goal for the Lions Stopping many breakaways and fast skating pucks from Whitby Auto players. In the first 3 minutes Lions scored twice. First goal by No. 8 Kevin Ellis unassisted and No. 16 Sean Gawley assisted by No. 9 lan McClelland. For Whitby Auto Wreckers No. 6 Mike Labanovich put the puck inthe Lions net unassisted. Soon. after - Brandon Puckrin No. 11 assisted by Mike Labanovich evened the score at 2-2. On an assist from No. 7 Neil Hancock and Mike Labanovich got the winning goal to make the final score 3-2. The defence line of Alan Calder No. 8 and No. 2 Mike Pothier was very effective in keeping this an exciting game to thesvery end. Whitby's goalie Greg Rankin played a good game keeping the Lions from scoring after their first 2 goals. U.AW.6 Gord Lewis Motors 4 U.A.W. played to a 6-4 win over Gord Lewis Motors on February 16, Lewis opened the scoring on an unassisted goal by Mike Pashley. U.AW.'s Rob McEarn replied assisted by Garfield LeFort. Lewis took the lead on a goal by Mark Cosway, assisted by Louis - Whitfield and Mike Pashley. U.A.W. tied the score on a play by Ryan Ridgway, assisted by Jason Dunkley and Derek Anderson. UAW. took the lead with a pass from Todd Moore to Jeremy Norton. 'Lewis responded with fifty-three seconds left in the period, Louis Whitfield from Mark Cosway. The second period ended in a 4-4 tie. Jeremy Norton scored for U.A.W. unassisted while Steve Parish, assisted by Darrel Slack and Mike Pashley marked for Lewis. U.A.W. clinched the win in the third period on a play by Rob McEarn to Jeremy Norton before the period ended, U.A.W. scored again with a goal by Ryan Ridgway, assisted by Todd Moore and Jason Dunkley. Auctioneers hit the gold Early Saturday morning the Novice No. 1 travelled to Uxbridge for a day long tournament. The opening game had Port mat- ched up against the home team and they easily skated to a 10-0 victory! Scoring for Port were Kenton LeFort 4 goals, 1 assist, Jay Tred- wav 3 goals, Jeremey Geer and Ryan Williams 1 goal, 1 assist each, Craig Laird 1 goal, Sandy Mark 3 assists, Timmy Fitzpatrick, Matt Morris; Billy Zaparanuik. Jay King, Tommy Chambers, Gavin Carnegie and Greg Thompson each picking up 1 assist. To prove the win was a team effort each skater received at least 1 point and the goaltenders shared in a shutout! Super game - boys. in game 2 Port met Bradford ina game which was very fast skating and physical with both teams receiving 10 minutes in penalties. Port's defense worked very hard this game allowing Bradford only a few shots on our goalies Scot Pret- chitko and Brandon Hammond. Greg Thompson. Matt Morris. Bil- ly Zaparaniik ard Jay King all did an outstanding job protecting their zone as well as taking some hard shots from the point. Super work boys! . Port controlled the play throughout the game and were all over Bradford whenever they would begin to set up a play. Port's Jeremey Geer was a definite stan dout on offence with his fast skating aggressive style, he not only scored 2 beautiful goals but did some fan- cy backchecking as well Great game Jeremey Kenton LeFort finished off Port's scoring late in the 2nd period as they coasted to a 30. victory! This win put the Novice No. 1 team in the championship game against a fast skating team from King City! The fans were treated to .a well played game of hockey with each team giving a 100 percent "effort Sandy Mark started the ball roll- ing late in the Ist period on an unassisted goal from the point then midwway through the 2nd period Sandy. counted again making the score 2-0 for Port With I minute re maining in the 2nd Kenton LekFort beat the King City goahe moving Port's score up 3-0 I'he tans sat on the edge of their seats as both teams had several scoring chances Midway through the 3rd period wingman Tommy Chambers scored assisted by San- dv Mark and Jay Tredway Nice work boyvs' King City slipped one goal in with 43 seconds remaming on a loosing attempt ending the game i-1 g Port Perry was awarded Cham- pionshjp Medallions for the fabulous team work they displayed throughout the tournament! In the 3 games the Novice No. 1 scored 17 - goals and allowed their opponents only 1 which is a fantastic record by itself! Congratulations to each team member on your well earned vic- tory! Along with our girls pep team we would like to thank the boys Michael, Blair, Sean and Gar for their added support throughout the tournament! Pearce Auctionee€rs travelled to Port Hope Tuesday February 17 to continue their plavotf series. On Mon. Feb. 16th. the Goreski In- sulation Bantams defeated Hunt- sville on home ice to win their best of five series, three games to zero. The visitors opened the scoring before Port scored 8 unanswered goals to win 8-1. Mike Sorley led Port with a hat trick. Gerry Douma scored twice and Clair Cornish. Kevin Gibson and Sean. Bradbury added singles. Todd Taylor picked up 4 assists while Jason Weinhold. Todd Poppleton. Kevin Gibson. Derek Fitzgerald. Brian Appleby. Chris Legere. Paul Wylie. Sean Bradbury. Port upped their lead midway into the 3rd period on an unassisted goal by Jeremey Geer. With only 1:22 seconds re- maining Port Hope had tied the score but 10 seconds later Sandy Mark & Jeremey Geer combined to put in the winning goal ended the © game 3-2. Port Perry faced off for the final time against Port Hope Friday night at home as they finished the series beating their opponents 7-2! Scoring for Port were Craig Laird 2 goals. 1 assist. This win allows Goreski's to ad- vance to the quarter finals against the winner of Ernestown and Napanee. Although Port was never in danger of losing this 13-6 match. Fenelon pressed hard right to the end. Port Perry didn't show their usual flare and seemed to play only as hard as they were forced to Congratulations to Lisa Levy who blasted in her 100th goal of the season and Nicole Slack tor her ex- tra effort. Scoring for Port were Nicole Slack and Lisa Levy with 6 goals, 2 assists each, Danielle Cooper 1 goal, 3 assists. Sylvia Durward 4 assists.
