18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, April 21, 1987 ¢ Scugog Island Area News by Mrs. Earl Reader Good news, for all the people whose garages are bulging with winter's papers, you will be able to clear them out this Saturday morn- ing April 26 when the Cubs & Scouts will gladly pick them up. They will start collecting about 8:30 or 9 a.m. Our sympathy is extended to Karen and Reg. Davis and Karen's family as her mother passed away recently after a lengthy illness. Who could have wished for a more perfect Easter weekend as far as weather went? It certainly en- couraged Easter worship services and family visits. "Next Monday will be the annual meeting of Scugog Social Planning Council. On Tuesday, April 28 at the Island United there is a special coffee hour at 10 a.m. when Betty Turcott, well known in Oshawa Presbyterial will be the guest speaker. She will give a drama presentatiion of Women of the Bible, high lighted in different costumes. Baby-sitting will be pro- vided, so don't let that stop you from attending. Would you still like to go on that Mystery Bus Trip June 10, spon- sored by the "Head" U.C.W.? Well, just phone Helen Redman. We'll note several changes on the Island this year. We'll miss Evalyn - their own business, but today's 'was just too good this year. GARDEN CENTRE Paper Drive planned by Cubs and Scouts & Allan Redman after years in the "Head" Fish & Chip stop. We are sorry Patricia Pogue at the Foot feels obliged to give up her Country Lane Nursery School after several years of training and preparation but obliged to follow high insurance rates and new laws. These laws are certainly discourag- ing to young people trying to start records seem to prove it necessary. The "Head" U.C.W. ladies are working on their annual Art & Craft Show preparations for May 9. As : usual, the "Grace" U.C.W. will serve a hot luncheon at the church the same day. This combination works out' very well for everybody who works and for visitors. You may expect some changes this year at the Community Hall Craft and Art Show. The Easter breakfast at the Island United was not quite so well attend- ed this year. Odd, too, when it is an annual event and should not be - | forgotten. But maybe the weather : Members of the Oshawa Greenbank 'Shotokan Karate Club proved their mettle dur- ing the fourth annual Grand Prix Championship held in Newmarket recently.
