In the past, the plaza merchants had hired the off-duty officers for traffic con- trol only on holiday weekends dur- ing the summer. One of the merchants told the Star ~ last week that traffic congestion at the plaza entrance has been turning shoppers away and the stepped up - traffic control is a way of making things more convenient for the customers. He added there is a good chance the off-duty police may be hired each weekend throughout the year.
