That won't be enough to finish the project, which is estimated at $75,000 total cost, but it will be a start and enough to get the school children off the side of a busy road as they walk to and from class. 4 , " Several times in the last few months, residents of Greenbank and officials at the school have requested the extension of the -sidewalk along the 11th Concession to the public school. While council has ear marked the $40,000 this year for a start on construction, Works superinten- dent Ronn MacDonald will come up with a recommmendation as to what side of the road the sidewalk should be built on. (from page 1) Mr. Milligan told councillors in a written report that the work load is so heavy many building projects are completed without any inspections, especially for excavation, framing, foundation and insulation stages. His report also outlined some of the numerous building code violations that were found during inspections. Violations were found in about 20 per cent of the more than 1,000 inspections he carried out last year. Mr. Milligan noted that neighbouring municipalities like Brock and Uxbridge Townships both have more people on staff in the building department than does Scugog. Uxbridge has two full time, 1 part time and another part-time person during the construction season. Brock has two full time and one part time staff member. : ~ Mr. Milligan said he receives some office assistance from the Town- ship's by-law enforcement officer. ' Hee h He suggested that even if Scugog goes into a building slump, there will be enough work to keep two people busy if the inspections are to be done properly. He pointed out that Scugog Township could be liable if there is a serious problem at a construction site. : Councillors listened to his report and immediately agreed to advertise for full time help. Council hopes to have an inspector hired and on the job in about six weeks. or When one councillor asked Mr. Milligan why he waited until late April to bring his report and request for additional help infront of council he ok replied "I've been too busy to prepare the report." ir child safe? Is your chi 15dI€; E. year thousands of children become victims of accidents in and around the home. You can reduce your child's risk of injury by ensuring a safe environment. | The federal government passed stringent new safety standards for cribs last fall. Make sure you select a crib that meets all safety standards, and keep it in good condition. Remember that children's sleepwear and clothing can burn easily and that your child should not play near fireplaces, stoves or heaters. Polo-style pyjamas are safer than loose fitting nightgowns. Provide close supervision if your child uses a walker, especially near stoves and electric cords, and ensure that stairways are closed off. - For more information on how you can protect your 3 child, please contact the nearest office of Consumer 8 and Corporate Affairs Canada.
