From there she moved on to provincial competition. On Saturday, April 25, at the Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Nicole took part in the Concours d'art oratoire, an annual French public speaking event sponsored by the On- tario Modern Language Teachers Association and Canadian Parents for French. Nicole wasn't nervous despite the fact that 'the room was big."' She never wavered although, in a group of 19 participants, "I was second last and the people were getting bored."
