And Mary Williamson up on Simcoe St. is still looking for anything you don't. want - to put in this flea market. No fleas anything but. A good crowd were in attandance at the Prince Albert School for their Open House and Science Fair last Thursday evening. One hundred and ten children showed their in- telligence from Grades one to six and some of the winners were -- Jeremy Geer, Kyle Brough, Sonja Henke, Melissia Donnelly, David Bengel. and Steven Elliot. Con- gratulations to you all. Obituary John Thomas Venning John' Thomas Venning passed | away at the Port Perry Communi- ty Memorial Hospital on April 3, 1987. John Venning, a lifetime resident of Blackstock, was born May 31, 1908. He was the son of Thomas Adelbert Venning and Mary Ann. Hillman. A brother, Leonard, died in infancy. John received his education at SS . No.2 Cartwright and at Blackstock Continuation School. He married Dorothy Stephens of Blackstock and they had just celebrated their 50th wedding an- niversary on Dec. 30th, 1986. John and Dorothy have one daughter, Joan (Mrs. Michael Teague) of Whitby. ~ For many years. John's occupa- tion was painter and decorator, in and around Cartwright. John, a member of the Blackstock United Church, was an avid sup- porter of Blackstock, keenly in-~ terested in people young and old. Always willing to lend a helping hand Some of his interests included baseball, both-as player and umpire. He played hockey in his younger days for the Blackstock team. John took pride in his home and spent many enjoyable hours working on - his lawn aad gardens A funeral service was held a. the: Wagg-McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home in Port Perry on April 6. 1987 Followed by Crema- tion. Rev Dale Davis officiated There were ten tables oi euchre played at the Prince Albert Hall on Thursday evening, April 30. Ladies high was Bernice Daniels, second was Elva Kydd and low was Dorothy Butson and over on the men's side - high went to Norman Rhorer, second was J. Poots and low was Pat Norton. The lone hand series was a tie with Norma Rhorer and Bert Daniels with 13 and lucky draws went to Clarence Butson and Grant Bright. The men sort of left the ladies standing in the dust, by taking all the goodies. See you next Thursday May 7 at 8 o'clock. Happy Birthday to Tracie An- drews, she celebrated her birthday on Saturday May 2 and if you see Judy Radford on Wednesday May 6 wish her a Happy Birthday, she's one of the good ones. The first' Scugog Scout Troop spent the weekend camped over at + Blackstock. Hope you all had a fun time planting those trees for Canada. Belated birthday wishes to Wilbur Vance he was 90 years young last week, 'and Wilbur 1 would have never 'guessed it, you look wonderful. The Simons family of which is Shirley, Wilbur's girl from Toronto were on hand to help Wilbur celebrate. Other callers from the neighbourhood called in also to con- vey their best wishes. And staying with birthdays, Les Beacock and his sister Olive from Oshawa celebrated on May 1, they - were both born on May 1. The Coles from Oshawa also helped Les and Olive push in another year. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Armstrong along with Mr. and Mrs. Len Gallant of Oshawa enjoyed a dinner and dance at Ladies Night at the Masonic Lodge in Port Perry on Saturday evening. Earl and Jean Martyn hosted the Sportie Q Club along with their wives recently. This evening brought the pool and games to a close for the summer but come September they will re-open again. The Couples Club from Prince Albert enjoyed viewing "The South Pacific' at the Town Hall on Satur- day evening. The Prince Albert U.C.W. ladies are holding a pie sale on May 23 at 10 o'clock at Helen Wozneys on Sim- , coe and Shirley Rd. Please phone Ilean Pugh with your Mothers Day news next week at 985-2146.
