Many family gatherings were held over the weekend to celebrate Mothers Day. Grace UCW pleased with lunch showing by Mrs. Earl Reader Saturday seemed to be an almost perfect day for the many functions that were scheduled. "Of course interests were divided and it was necessary to make a choice. Many horse trailers were seen heading for the Arabian horse competitions at the Greystone Equestrian Centre. Of course this took the horse lovers. However the Centre of the Island was a busy place too. The "Grace" U.C.W_, were very pleased with the large number who attended their hot luncheon and were then in'a hap- py state to cross the corner to the Community Hall to enjoy the after- noon sponsored by the "Head" U.C.W. The demonstrations drew ~ much attention and sent many children and adults home with in- teresting mementos as well "as unusual purchased crafts. Geo. Edgar's scissors didn't get much 'rest. Of course there was a big rush to the flea table for bargains galore. The bake table too offered many tas- ty surprises. Plants were abundant and pleased the happy gardeners." By the way the afghan and pillow went to Jackie Beddome of Pon- typool. : Mrs. Marion Carter spent a month " recently near Edmonton with her daughter Anne and husband and lit- tle granddaughter and consequent- ly was there to welcome a new grandson. Don't forget Thursday evening at the library at 7:30 p.m. if you'd like to see the Martyn's pictures of Greece, Turkey and Islands. We are pleased to report Claude Parker had a successful operation a week ago on voice box and vocal chords and will likely be home within a couple of weeks. He cer- tainly has gone through a lot but is in good spirits now and looking for- ward to the next steps for speech.
