} EH ---- A TY - Grade eights in Ottawa Blackstock and Area News by Joyce Kelly The grade eights of Cartwright Public School enjoyed a three day bus trip to Ottawa, returning home on Friday afternoon. All reports state that they had a funfilled trip. Mr. and Mrs. Koprowski, Scar- borough were Sunday afternoon guests of Mrs. Marion Hodge and son Tom. A former resident of this area, Mrs. Edna Venning of Coboconk, passed away last week following a lengthy illness. Funeral Service was held in Port Perry. Sympathy to her : relatives and friends in this area. Congratulations 10 Doreen Van Camp, who graduated with a Master of Divinity Degree from U. of T. on Thursday evening. Attending this happy event were her mother Mrs. Margaret Van Camp, Richard and Ruby Van Camp, Brian and Lois McLeod. Bill Johnston celebrated his 70th birthday on Saturday evening. Bill and Ruth Marconi hosted a party in his honour, with Neil and Cathy McLaughlin, Alex, Jessica and Blake attending the barbeque com- plete with special birthday cake. ~ On Tues. May 12th, the Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. met at the home of Kathleen Wotts -- 17 members present. Following a tasty ice- cream dessert the meeting was opened by our leader Grace Hall who read a quote from Tom Harpers column of the Sunday Star ending it with three questions. No. 1- If I'm not for myself whe will be for me? 2. If I'm only for myself, what am I? 3. If not now? when? -- the " wishful thinking that delays and avoids tough decisions. Sages and philosophers agree we should live each moment to the fullest, doing what has to be done promptly or be prepared for frustrations. (REN PORT PERRY Roll Call was answered with "Remembrances from our childhood." After a short business meeting our programme consisted of remembrances from W.AM.W.NSS. and the 'union into U.CW. A lot of very interesting anecdotes were given. Jean Ferguson read a paper prepared by Mabel Devitt for the Nestleton- Cadmus area naming former ex- ecutives of the organizations. Jean Adams involved in a little skit por- traying the feelings of the ladies after Dr. Wott announced that kit- chens had to have 3 sinks, and that dishes were to be washed, rinsed and disinfected. Devotional given by Jean Ferguson with theme -- "Friends' -- and we sang Hymn 114 -- "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."' Following the offering and a unison dedication, Jean read a poem -- and when all is said and done, our finest gift in life is friends. . Meeting closed with Benediction. Our June meeting will be at Jean Church's on the Island and will be a potluck lunch. We'll meet at the church at 12 noon and pool cars. ~ The Blackstock W.1. met in the Hall on May 6th. After dessert of among other things, a very delicious rhubarb crunch, a fitting dessert for the Spring Season. The meeting started with Lois Luke in the chair opening the meeting the usual way. Arrangements were made for District Annual at Kendal, Thurs- "day May 7th, 1986-7. Pennies for friendship were $35.00. These pen- nies help the underprivileged coun- tries with their W.I. work, a very needy project. We finalized arrangements for selling lunch at Mr. and Mrs. Kristen's sale.
