ALG oI RE A Bill Barr has been busier than a two-headed-owl the past few months lining up entertainment for the Bandstand in Palmer Memorial Park. The first program in the Summer Concert Series in the Park will take place this Thursday night at 7:30 p.m., and will feature the 25 member Lindsay Community Concert Band. Everyone is invited to attend the free concert (weather permit- ting) and are asked to bring lawn chairs for seating. See adin this paper for listing of future concerts in the park. 'Scugog firemen send team to compettion The Scugog Fire Department will be represented again this year at the annual automobile extrication com- petitions to be held June 7-12 at York University in Toronto. : The Scugog contingent will be made up of Captain Don Steele and firefighters Pete Caudle, Irv Gib- son, John Foster, Roy Teer and Rob Cook. These competitions are organized each year by the Ontario Fire Mar- shall in co-operation with the Municipal Fire Department Instruc- tors Association. While teams will compete against each other, the primary purpose for ~ the event is to increase the ability and skills of the team members. Fire departments are being called on more and more to assist at accident scenes to free the victims and their skill and fast work is credited with saving the lives of countless persons. The competition this year marks the 25th anniversary of this event, and the Scugog team will be up against departments from as far away as Georgia, Florida, Texas, Alabama, New York, Maryland and one from Surrey, England. Several teams from large Ontario cities will also be represented. Judging the competitions will be based on several factors including safety, co-ordination and control, completion of the task, technique and speed. Leanne Philip, a grade 9 student at Port Perry High School received a $100 cash award from the Railway Association of Canada for her pro- ject entitled 'The Ice Man Comes, The Ice Man Goes." - IIIT PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 26, 1987 -- 13 Canada-wide science fair Anicka Quin, a grade 8 student at Duffin"s Bay Public School in Durham captured a Bronze Medal in the Junior Life Sciences Category with her project entitled, "Stratification." Quin also received a $200 cash award from Chevron Canada Resources. Mark Charlinski, a grade 8 stu- dent at West Lynde Public School in 'Whitby won an Honourable Mention in the Junior Physical Sciences Category for his project, 'Let's Play Ball II." Charlinski also received a prize from The Royal Canadian Geographical Society.
