-- 18 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, May 26, 1987 Blue Ray celebrates in fine style Nestleton-Caesarea News by Mabel Cawker Blue Ray Celebrates In Fine Style Blue Ray Chapter, No. 238, OES, held a great celebration on Thurs- day evening, May 14, for their 39th birthday party. It was held in the Masonic Temple, Port Perry, with guests present from The Beaches, Birchcliff, West Hill, Whitby, Oshawa, Bowmanville, and Sunland. Chapters, for this "gala" event. They were given a warm, fraternal welcome in the East by Worthy Matron Elsie Wilbur, assisted by Past Patron, Sam Cawker. This was a special night for Carousal Matrons, Patrons & Associates & they were warmly welcomed. Several dignitaries were greeted in the East. During the business session a report was given re- the Luncheon & Card party convened by Marjorie McCombe which was a fine success with a nice sum raised for the Estarl fund. The Masonic Ladies night was an enjoyable evening and a success as well. special project...a Wheel-chair for Central Seven for the Mentally Han- dicapped is moving along by "leaps - and bounds" with between $350 and $400 raised. We are well on the way folks in our Benevolent work. 25 year pins were presented to P.P. Merlin Suggitt, Ruby Smith and Doris Evans. - Our congratulations! After the meeting closed...a humorous skit was presented by a group of Eastern Star Officers much to the delight of all These girls have talent - plus' The Worthy Matron's The Hall was decorated artistical- ly. by the committee with the Carousal theme - the Fun Cymbol being the Teddy Bear - So - we had a 'Teddy Bear Picnic"...a very ef- fective decorating idea with Teddies and Balloons combined for a novel arrangement! We commend the committee for a super job! Lovely refreshments were. baskets of finger rolls, salads, individual jellies, topped off with Teddy Bear cake. made by Judy Mitchell. and tea & coffee. The com- mittee under the direction of Marguerite Mitchell was fantastic adding flavor & zest to the party! Our warmest thanks! Keep in mind the Auction Sale to be held May 30, at the Masonic Hall. Items to be brought to the hall Fri- day evening, May 29, from 7-9 p.m. The Eastern Star is featuring a bake sale as well. Be as supportive as possible for this money raising venture. News Of Cancer Canvass Have just received the approx- imate total for Cartwright Township Cancer Drive - so - felt I'd like to pass on the good news 'to the volunteers and the donors. We are well over the amount collected last year (1986) which amounted to $4,369.00. This year (1987) the tidy sum amounts-to over $6,000.00. A full report will appear in this column shortly. District Annual Attended The day long District Annual Meeting re-the nine Branches of On- tario South District was held in Brooklin United Church, Thursday, May 21, with some 70 delegates at- tending. 14 members were present from Honeydale Br. The lovely luncheon at the noon hour was enjoyed with the U.C.W. members of the Brooklin United Church catering. District President Mrs. Alva Thompson of Scugog Br. retired from office..and our new District President is Mrs. Helen McKean from Greenbank Br. Caesarea Euchre Party For the regular Wednesday even- ing card game the winners were: First prize winner - Mary Poots with 86. Second prize winner - Eva Mac- Donald with 82. Low - Gwen Robins with 48. Lunch was convened by Irene Train & Faith Lawrence. A very good attendance! Keep up the good work folks, and support the Ladies Auxiliary..a hard working, dedicated group! Lively Auction Sale of Interest At Nestleton W.1. The lively Auction sale of plants, bulbs, baking, etc. in charge of Karel Nottingham, assisted by Grace Bajema was the "'highlight" of the Nestleton Branch meeting, held in the Community Centre, on Wed. May 13. Sincere appreciation to these ladies for their fine efforts which netted a considerable sum for the treasury. President Neta Fish brought the meeting to order with a cordial welcome to members and several visitors and read two interesting - poems. The roll call was answered by naming something new in gardening. Norma Frew gave an ex- cellent report of the District Annual held in Kendal on May 7. The minutes were read by Secretary Gwen Malcolm and the financial statement presented by Rika Wygerde,. Treasurer. There will be some W_I. exhibits and information + re - the work of Women's Institutes over the years, at the opening of Bowmanville Museum on Saturday, June 6 at 1:30 p.m. Members are in- vited to this ceremony. An invitation SAVE The Bay's bigge on sale now at to attend Blackstock W. I. on June 4th at 8 pm. to hear a special speaker was accepted. A committee volunteered to plan the exhibits for "Now and Then' at Blackstock Fair in August. Gwen Malcolm showed some interesting 'Souvenirs' of a New Zealand W.I. meeting which she attended while visiting her daughter and son-in-law in December. The programme consisted of readings by Winnifred Davison & Norma Frew. A contest was con- ducted by the president. Lunch was enjoyed after a busy afternoon, with Norma Frew and group in charge. Cards were signed for three sick people in hospital and a shut-in at home. The Sacrament of Baptism Celebrated Elizabeth Bronwyn, infant daughter of Scott & Joanne Cawker, Oshawa, was baptized in St. An- drew's United Church, on Sunday, May 24th, at 11 a.m. The officiating Minister Rev. Gordon Postill was assisted by Associate Minister Mrs. Susan Genge and the Clerk of Ses- sion in a very impressive ceremony. - Many relatives were present for this symbolic rite of the Church with deep religious significance. After "the Service, Scott & Joanne held a baptismal party at their home in North Oshawa for Elizabeth Bron- wyn with many present for the event. A sumptuous buffet luncheon with a lovely array of food was en- joyed by all. Those present includ- ed: Alan & Eleanor Cawker, Andy & Anne Cawker, Valerie, Andrea & Klane, Dan & Lea Kitchen & Jessica, Anthony & Sandra Van Grootheest, Katie & Victoria, Betty Guscott & daughter Barbara, all of ° Oshawa, and Sam & Mabel Cawker of Scugog Pt. Road. Our best wishes to this young family! ? Social Events Allan Mairs of Dalhéim Nursing Home, Uxbridge spent a few days with his parents, Norm & Bernice - Mairs of Nestleton. A nice change for Allan! Nestleton Presbyterian Church With an average atteridance, Rev. F. Swann conducted the 10 a.m. ser- vice in the Nestleton Presbyterian Church with Mrs. Joyce Taylor - organist. Psalm reading ... No. 28 and "Living Faith" selection - "The church reaches out' with Scripture Matthew 6: 5-15. Continuing the study of the Lord's Prayer- Rev. Swann spoke of the "Sermon on the Mount" when Jesus gave us the pat- tern of prayer beginning "Our Father ... in response to. Teach us to pray." ' On Sunday, June 14, the Senior's choir of Port Perry will be in atten- dance and bring special music. Plan to attend and hear this excellent choir. Caesarea Community Church A good congregation for Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Rev. Dr. W.H. Crawford spoke on 'Believing and Receiving' an excellent message from Luke, Ch. II read by Dan Pugh Jr. Responsive reading was led by Arden Maschke. A special service is being plann- ed for June 7th, when the Caesarea Church will celebrate their 5th an- niversary since the church reopen- ed. Warmest congratulations to a dedicated congregation! Under the Sunshine Club- the Primary is closed for the summer. The Juniors will have their final meeting on Thursday, and the Teen Club will continue for a few more meetings. Nestleton United Greeters at the door- Robert & Carol Mairs, Steven & Katie. Music- a duet by Regenia Walker & Janice ° MacKenzie, singing '"When You Pray." The children's story was interesting- all joined hands in the church illustrating being part of the family. Rev. Dale Davis sermon was brief entitled "A Piece of The Rock." The Sunday School anniver- sary is this coming Sunday with the Picnic being held after Service at the home of Norm & Bernice Mairs 'at 1:00 p.m. Communion was celebrated!
