Mr. Moore will remain with the executive in the position of immediate past president. : Mr. Steele's involvement with Minor Hockey in this community goes back 13 years as a coach and he has served as a director for the past eight years. As a coach, he guided the Port Perry Atom A squad to several championships, the most recent being the all-Ontario title this past season. With his new duties as President of the Corporation, he will be giving up the coaching position with the Atom team. Other members of the executive named to positions by acclamation Sunday night were Walt Sandison as secrelary-treasurer; Larry Lee as vice president operations and Doug Scott as vice president development. The ten directors elected at the meeting were Carl Fitzgerald, Norm Ball, Dave Ballingall, Ray Zaparanuik, Wendy Bourgeois, David Bourgeois, Bill Broadworth, Ivan Geer, Ron King and Grant -Laird. Unlike other annual meetings in recent years this was a rather sub- dued affair with less than 30 people attending. There were no ma jor issues on the agenda. The current cut- off date for player transfers will re- main at the second Saturday in January. The proposed change did not get the necessary two-thirds ma- jority support from those present. However, the Minor Hockey ex- ecutive noted that the policy on player transfers in the House Leagues is to make any adjustments lo teams as early as possible after league games commence. It was also noted that under OMHA regula- a tions, all-star coaches are allowed to bring players up and down from House Leagues until February 10. Other issues that came under discussion at the meeting included the use of the Blackstock Arena for practise time, the power skating courses held over the Christmas holidays and whether body checking should be {ntroduced at the Pee Wee and Bantam House League levels. . Last year, Minor Hockey used Blackstock Arena seven hours per The Junior Girls basketball team from Cart- wright Central School in Blackstock enjoyed an outstanding season on the courts this year, win- ning 20 games and losing just two. The team was runner-up in the all-Durham final, and won the week for practise times. It was agreed that the Novice and Atom age teams had good attendance at the practises (about 80 per cent) but the numbers dipped at the Pee Wee and Bantam levels. The Blackstock Arena will be used again this com- ing season for practises, but the Cor- poration will also look into the possibility of renting ice time at other arenas like Sunderland or Manvers, if the time is available at reasonable hours of the evening. The power skating clinics con- ducted by Mike Sandison over the Christmas holidsay will be con- tinued again this season but because of poor attendance in the older age groups, some of these may be com- bined for the clinics. The topic of body checking in the Pee Wee and Bantam House Leagues was discussed at length. No decisions were taken to alter the status quo at this time, but the ex- ecutive will be looking at this issue again prior to the start of the season. It was suggested that if body check- ing is allowed in Pee Wee House Scugog Invitational tournament. Another idea discussed briefly was the possibility of constructing a full size open air rink with boards and lights which could be used by teams for practises. The executive is going to look into this further, especially with regards to liability if such a facility was built on private property. = The treasurer's report shows that for the year ending April 30, 1987, the Corporation ran a slight deficit of $319 which is about normal. There is a current bank balance of just under $4,000. Registration in 1986-87 was down from the previous year by 27 youngsters.
