On Friday May 29, the Partland Brothers take to the stage, fresh from the success of their number one hit "Soul City" Warm-up act Rumbleseat (a John Cougar tribute) opens what will be arn ex- citing night And on Saturday May 30, a Beatles tribute band; called 1964 (these guys look and sound just like the fab four) will thrill what's ex pected to be a sold-out crowd, with all the songs that made the Beatles famous. Still, the coup of the Kinsmen Club was obtaining the popular Partland Brothers for this year's celebra'ion of spring Born in a small rural community just north of Toronto, and raised in a close family environment, Chris and GP. Partland bring their rural roots and values to their music. ° Boating death down Blending the haunting moods of rhythm and blues with soul and the compelling beat of rock 'n roll, the Partlands have developed a new sound which is distinctively their own. Attempts to categorize them will surely fail as their original songs and music provide a fresh new focus for their audience * They moved to Toronto where op- portunity was greater to realize their lifelong dreams of becoming professional musicians. In the mid 1970's, Chris formed his first band Rolling Thunder Joined hy brother G.P. in 1979, Oliver Heavyside was born and became a potent force on the local rock scene. Their success culminated in their winning the local Q107 Homegrown contest in 1983. Oliver Heavyside went on to become one of Ontario's most sought after acts, playing throughout Ontario and the United States, all the while providing the stage for Partland Brothers to perfect their unique musical style. In 1984 the brothers were ap- on OPP territory Last year boating related deaths fell 45 percent when compared to 1985 on waters patrolled by the On- tario Provincial Police. "During 1986, 55 people died in boating incidents compared to 100 deaths the previous year. We at- tribute this dramatic decline to a marked change in the public's at- titude about boating safety and im- paired boating," said O.P P. Com- missioner Archie Ferguson. Part of this change in attitude can be attributed to the O.P.P. Marine Awareness Program. While, the main thrust of this program is public education, 250.officers of the O.P.P. Marine Units will again be firm in dealing with violators this summer When on patrol, each of the . ~0.P.P.'s 105 boats will be equipped with an alcohol breath tester (the same type as used in patrol cars) to determine if the operator of a boat has been consuming alcohol. Last year a total of 29,671 boats were checked by the O.P.P. Marine Units. - This summer O.P_P. Marine of- ficers will be on the lookout for un- safe boats, overloading, lack of safe: ty equipment such as life jackets. careless waterskiing and reckless boating. "Having a safe boating season 1s * . no accident. Only through public awareness of the rules of the water- ways can"we make Ontario's rivers "and lakes safe for everyone, said Lommissioner Ferguson: .and Blackstock proached by Jim Martin, long-time member of the management group of Burton Cummings and the Guess Who, while playing in a local hotel They were offered the benefit of his knowledge and experience in an ef- fort to obtain a recording contract. In February '85, their demo tape came to the attention of Capitol Records. They were signed to a con- tract with their first album *'Elec- tric Honey," released in October '86. Capitol has hailed Partland Brothers as a major new discovery in an increasing line of Canadian talent: Acquiring the services of Vini Poncia, whose credits include production of the likes of Ringo Starr, Paul McCartney, John Len- non, George Harrison, Melissa Man- chester and Kiss, to oversee the first album and songs such as 'Soul Ci- ty," "The Reason," 'Electric Honey." "This One's For You" and "Walk With Me" have already taken the music charts by storm, firmly establishing Partland Brothers as one of the most suc- cessful new bands to emerge in the music industry. The compelling arrangements, optimistic lyrics and haunting rhythms of Chris are powerfully complemented by the high-energy vocals and exciting visual charisma of G.P. to immerse the audience and "the performers into a vibrant ex- perience. The hard-driving rhythms of songs such as *"That's The Way It Will Be" and "Best Love" changes to the thoughtful and soul- searching melodies of "The Reason' and "'Soul City" without loss of the intense energy which is characteristic of Partland Brothers soun Without a doubt, capturing the Partland Brothers for Springfest was a major coup for the Kinsmen Club, and tickets are expected to go fast for the band's Friday night con- cert, as well as for Saturday's 1964, Grab them while you can ($6 ad: vance, $8 at the door), at Cine-Max, Port Perry; Seagrave General Store Country Convenience. ty PORT PERRY RINSMEN present .. % SPRINGFEST '87 SATURDAY, MAY 30th BLAC FRIDAY, MAY 29th ! reaturing Partland Brothers (Recording Artists) Warm-up Act Rumbleseat (John Cougar Tribute) tenturing 1964 - A Beatles Tribute Scugog Arena -- Port Perry TICKETS: $6.00 Advance; $8.00 At-the-Door Available at,,CINE-MAX, PORT PERRY: SEAGRAVE GENERAL STORE; KSTOCK COUNTRY CONVENIENCE Partland Brothers top weekend Springfest | Chris and G.P., the Partland Brothers, will take the Scugog !
