Objections to re-zoning (From page 1) legal non-conforming use at the present time. Several of the speakers in op- position to the by-law amendment were critical of Scugog Township for not moving in last fall and shut- ting down the wreckage business on the 1.5 acres. "Do the by-laws mean somebody can move in, do whatever he wan- ts, and then apply to make it all legal when people start to com- plain," asked Michael Norman. " Township administrator Earl Cuddie said the municipality was aware of what was happening last fall and winter on the 1.5 acres parcel and Mr. Manderson applied for the re-zoning when the Town- ship threatened to shut the business down through court ac- tion. Mr. Cuddie added that judges will not hear cases like this if there iS a rezoning application .under- way. He also noted that if the coun- cil turns down the zoning ap- plication, Mr. Manderson has the right to appeal this decision to the Ontario Municipal Board. Ten acre parcel just for a church The man who is donating ten acres of land as the site for a new church gave his assurances to council Monday afternoon that the site east of Caesarea will be used for a church only. Jerry Jonkeers told council the Fellowship Church in Caesarea is not large enough for the growing number of people in! the congregation, so he has agreed to donate the ten acres of land on the corner of Durham Rd. 57 and the Williams Point Road. In response to concerns raised by residents who live near the site, Mr. Jonkeers said there could be playgrounds and a baseball field, but there are no plans for anything other than a church. Residents living nearby ex- pressed fears that there could be a summer day camp built on the property. Rev. W. Crawford "told council that if the zoning amendment for While the residents of the area were present at Monday's public hearing to voice their objections, the Town of Whitby 'has served written notice that its planning department has serious concerns about the proposed by-law for en- vironmental reasons. Township council took no action Monday afternoon on passing or rejecting the proposed zoning amendment, but. Mayor Jerry Taylor said a decision would be made in the next couple of weeks. After listening to the angry ob- jections for about an hour, Mr. Brady said he was 'Sympathetic' to the concerns raised. He asked: that council defer any decision to give his client time tp address these concerns. - . "No. 1 White Creamed 44 1b. (2 kg.) Allow the families to 2riove. allow them to express their sorrow. Encourage the family to talk about the loved one. For all family members, the process of bereavement lasts much longer than one would expect. One never "gets over" the death of child, but rather learns to live with the pain. . One of the worst things you can dois fail to ackhowledge that the family once had a precious child or spouse. Avoid cliches that hurt. Don't say: "Time heals, keep yourself busy.", "it's a blessing", "You can have other children", "You are young, you'll remarry." If you don't know what to say, just say "| don't know what to say. I'm so terribly sorry." ; Families feel intense einotionai pain, loneliness an a loss of pur- pose; their lives will never be the same. As the reality of the loss intensifies, bereaved families can be helped by someone who has survived this kind of tragedy. Those who have lost a child or spouse through death should be encouraged to meet others who have had a similar experience. Please direct your comments to Harold Wage . . 985-2171 ..
