28 -- PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, June 2, 1987 Greenbank nips Stouffville On Friday, May 22, the Green- bank Pee Wee All-Stars hosted Stouffville to kick off their season in the York-Durham Fastball League. Both teams are newcomers to the league and it was a battle of which team was the best. Greenbank, however, managed to over-power the Stouffville squad by, the score of 6-3. - 3 The game's first run was scored by Greenbank's JohnChronis on a hit by Brett Puckrin between 'the first and second baseman. But it didn't take long for Stouffville to get on the board when in the second in- ning they chalked up 2 runs to make the score 2-1 in favour of the visiting team. > Greenbank took charge at the plate and got the "sticks" working. It paid off in the bottom of the third when Brett Puckrin took a walk and was driven home by powerhouse Mark Shepherd's homerun. Another run was scored when Barclay Phoenix got a base hit and was driven home by a classy ground ball by Danny Sluggett which ended up in a triple. This made the score 4-2 in the home teams favour. Stouffville, however, were shut- down by Greenbank's nifty field work but managed to just get 1 run making the score 4-3: Greenbank then gritted their teeth and bared down at the bat which resulted in big hitter Mark Shepherd getting a base hit and was driven home by John Ennis in the bottom of the fifth. ® ~The next inning, Stouffville was 'shut down with 3 strike outs in a row 'by Greenbank's: pitcher Brett Puckrin. Greenbank then came to what was going to be their last bat in the bottom of the sixth and scored another run by Darrin Bacon on a hit by John Chronis making the final score 6-3 for Greenbank. 13-0 VICTORY The following Friday on May 29, Greenbank played host to Clare- mont. Greenbank really wanted to show what they could do in this game and did it with flying colours! They did it with a wopping score of 130. Greenbank controlled this game offensively and defensively and showed No Mercy right from the - start. There was no scoring in the se- cond or third innings but in the fourth, Tim Timms, Darrin Bacon and John Ennis were all on base when Mark drove Timms home with a beautiful hit through the infield. This left bases loaded when Brett Puckrin cime to bat. Brett drove all of them home in a double to center making the score 6-0 Scoring came again when Peter 'Loughran received a walk and Tim Timms drove one to center field ad- vancing Pete to third. David Don- neral, John Ennis and John Chronis of Tim Timms behind the plate, Brett Puckrin on the mound, Dan- ny Sluggett on first, John Ennis on second, Ken Winslow on the "hot spot" (3rd), John Chronis playing short-stop Darrin Bacon, David Donneral, Mark Shepherd, Chris Linton, Chris Donnelly, Barclay Phoenix and Peter Loughran, all sharing the duties in the field. The coaching duties are held by 6-5 in fastball Steve Loughran, Ron Winslow and Bud Ennis. A special thanks to all who came out to support their local team and the team appreciates it The boys are off to an awesome start and plan to do extremely well in the future by practising hard and learning from our mistakes. Greenbank's next home game is next Friday, June 5, at 8:30 against East Gwillumbury. : Ladies soccer league results David's Ladies sponsored by all received walks and bases were, py. uiq¢ Hairstyling opened their loaded when powerhouse Mark Shepherd came to bat again. Mark waited for his pitch and when the right one came, he blasted the ball over the right fielder's head, chalk- ing up his first 'grand slam" homerun. Following Mark's homer, Brett Puckrin received his first 4 baser of the season. This made the score 13-0 in the bottom of the fifth. As for defense, Greenbank's fielders, didn't have much to do because of Brett Puckrin's pitching. The Oshawa team took the game 4-0. Without the great goal- tending of Terry Childs the outcome could have been much more in their favour. : Other players of notable mention were: Kim Roane, Vicky Stewart, Patti Gallant, Kelly Storry and Tina On May 25 David's Ladies went to Oshawa to play against the Oshawa A team. We suffered an 11-0 loss. This week the ladies will be playing two Pickering teams at home. BANTAM GIRLS On May 28 Port Perry's Bantam Girls team travelled to Whitby. The- Whitby team took the game 8-1. Strong efforts by Niki Lynn, Sarah Pheenix and Lisa Levy. Congratulations to Lisa Vernon for earning the single goal.
