dks ---- " Old friends return for a pleasant visit Seagrave and Area News by Marilyn Beacock With the equal show of sunshine and warm rain we have been receiv- ing recently it has all but assured us of a bumper crop of luscious, juicy strawberries with which we can en- Joy an occasional piece of strawberry glaze pie or a shortcake piled high with whipped cream -- all low-cal of course! I was delighted to hear from our good friend and former store owner Gloria Wallace. Gloria and her friend Geraldine were guests of Sharon and Al Deckert for a few '« days recently and had a ball visiting ~ and phoning all their former frierids and acquaintances. I was sorry that I missed them, Gloria's always good for a few chuckles! Both of them wish to extend their appreciation to Sharon and Al and everyone they visited with for the generous hospitality extended to them while they were here. They have once again returned to their picturesque little village by the sea just outside of Shediac," New. Brunswick. The mere mention of it makes me hungry for-one of those east coast delights known as a lobster roll! Last Sunday a large crowd attend- ed the Sunday School Anniversary services at Seagrave. We were pleased to welcome Mrs. Mildred Noakes of Oakwood as our guest speaker. Mildred has taken our ser- vice before and she was every bit as entertaining as in the past. Special mention must be made of our local talent who provided music for the occasion. Misses Stephanie " Knutson, Erin Kent -and Becky Wanamaker stole the show with their trio selection and two other young ladies Miss Kristy Hutcheon and Miss Amy Lynn Wanamaker each entertained us with a solo. Thank you girls and to Joan Lee and her choir members who also helped to make the day so successful. Our S.S. staff deserve a pat on the back for all their efforts during the year too! Several members of the Seagrave congregation enjoyed attending Greenbank 'S.S. Anniversary ser- vices this past Sunday with special guest speaker Mr. John Cavers and we are reminded that Pinedale will be hosting their celebration 6 on June 14 at 11:00 a, m. Our next scheduled service at Seagrave will be June 28. During the summer, services will be alternated with Pinedale beginning June 21. All services at these two churches will be at 9:30 a.m. Pinedale's Sundays will be June 21, July 5 and July 19, Seagrave will be June 28, July 12 and July 26. In order to meet the financial demands of our church a yard sale is being organized for Saturday June the 20th at the home of Bill and Shirley Barr. All donations will be gratefully accepted and if delivery is a .problem please call Fred Puckrin at 985-2627 or Bill Barr at 985-7239 .and they will arrange to pick up your articles. The U.C.W. ladies will also be hosting a Bake Sale at the same location and I'm sure donations of baking would also be appreciated. The Barr home is located approx- imately Y; mile south of the south entrance to Seagrave, on the west side of Durham No. 2. The U.C.W. ladies are invited to attend a meeting at the home of Jean Nadwell on Wed. June 10. We are softy to report that Mrs. Muriel King is a patient in the, Port Perry Hospital and we trust she will be soon feeling much better. Happy Birthday greetings to Ger- tie Wanamaker, Geoff Luke and" Blair Beacock and to any others who - are celebrating their special day this week. We trust this next year will be filled with good health and happiness for each of you. --. Congratulations to Geoff Luke and Blair Beacock who captured 2nd prize in the boys 14 and under category in the Canoe the Nonquon race on Saturday. An excellent day for this worthwhile fundraiser for our local Scugog Shores Museum! Plans are well underway and the excitement is building for the great Port Perry High School Reunion festivities which get underway Fri- day, June 26 and conclude on Sun- day, June 28. Friday evening and all day Saturday are chocked full of fun and entertainment and of course the "inevitable renewing of old acquain- tances or should that be "old flames!" Whatever the case be on deck -- it promises to be a weekend you'll want to be a part of! That's about all the news items I have for this week.
