Commissioner of Planning & The second son of the late Samuel & Grace Farmer, John was always interested in things electrical & became a self-taught electronics ex- pert until Alzheimers disease deprived him of his favourite voca- tion and past time. During his lifetime, John served with the Canadian Army & Air Force. He worked for Ferranti Elec- tric, Moffat Stoves, Avro Aircraft & Garrett Manufacturing Company & when he wasn't at his place of employment, one could always find him repairing radios, televisions or just tinkering in the basement of the home he built at 16 Braecrest Avenue in Etobicoke. John married the late Doris Jean PORT PERRY STAR -- Tuesday, July 14, 1987 -- 21 steamship Victoria ready to load or unload near the town's docks. | Obituary: John Forster Farmer Roach, on May 11, 1940. John Farmer is survived by sons Thomas of Lindsay, Keith of Aurora & David of Brampton, brother Ar- chie of Oshawa & sister Marion Boyd of London, grandchildren Donald, Lisa, Brian & Alana & predeceased by sister Anne Boyd. Funeral Services were held at the Wagg-McDermott-Panabaker Funeral Home, Port Perry at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 30th, 1987. In- terment at Pine Grove Cemetery, Prince Albert. The many memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Durham were greatly appreciated. Rev. Ansley Tucker officiated. Aileen (Raines) Davidson Aileen Davidson (nee Raines) passed away on April 13, 1987 at the Port Perry Community Hospital. She was born at Saintfield, On- tario, January 24, 1913 where her parents, Hunter and Mabel Raines farmed. Aileen lost her father in a - - farming accident when she was six years old. Aileen's mother con- tinued the farm operation and rais- ed her children, which included a sister Grace and a brother Morley. She received her education in Sunderland. On April 2, 1938, Aileen married George Davidson of Greenbank. Aileen and George farmed in the Blackwater area where they raised four children, Morley, Larry and twins, Karen and Kenneth. The family moved to Port Perry following a fire which destroyed the barn and accompanying buildings in March, 1964. Aileen was a member of the Port Perry United Church and was active in the United Church Women. She enjoyed her children and supported with enthusiasm their activities in the church, 4-H, baseball and hockey. Ellen (Nellie) Hopkins On Sunday, May 3, 1987, Ellen (Nellie) Jean Hopkins passed away at Oshawa General Hospital in her 64th year. ' Nellie was born to Fred and Hat- tie Gostick on the Pickering family farm where she lived until she began teaching. After her marriage, Nellie moved to the Hopkins farm in Ashburn. Later, Bill and Nellie built their own home on the farm, which Nellie maintained beautifully inside and out. As a public school teach ellie began teaching at Chal ke School in 1944. Later she taught at Locust Hill and S.S. 12 Pickering schools before taking time from full time teaching to raise her family. In 1956, Nellie returned to full time teaching at Claremont staying 12 years and then tranferring to Meadowcrest Public School. She soon became the school librarian and, in 1978, also began teaching gifted English students. Nellie retiréd from teaching in June, 1982. Formerly a member of Green River Baptist church, Nellie became an active member of Burns Presbyterian Church on May 5, 1068 and was inducted as elder on Feb. 6, 1977. During the years, Nellie was deeply involved in every aspect of the life of the church and provid- ed leadership and enthusiasm for many of the groups. On Tuesday, May 5, Rev. Stuart McEntyre, assisted by Claude Sim- monds and Doug Ashton conducted the well attended Funeral Service at Burns Presbyterian Church in Ashburn. They spoke of Nellie's 'many talents used in christian ser- vice. 'As a teacher, member, elder, choirmember, librarian, president, secretary, pianist and friend, she touched every part of our church life."' Pallbearers were Hugh Knight, Theo Knight, Joe Johnson, Doug Ashton, Ray Porter and Bill Gardner. Interment followed in Burns Church cemetery. Following the service, friends and relatives gathered in the church hall where a lovely lunch was served by the Kirk Guild. The many floral tribues and donations to the various organiza- tions spoke eloquently of the high regard in which she was held in the community. Left to mourn her passing are her son Maurice and wife Sandy. Also surviving are a brother Russel, sisters Ada (Mrs. Fred Hodgson) and Myrtle (Mrs. Walter Foote), nephews Gary Gostick of Clare- mont, Jim and Scott Hopkins of Ashburn, and Bill Hopkins of Prince Albert, nieces Sharon (Mrs. Tony Emm) of Ashburn and Barb (Mrs. Ed Schunk) of Pickering and great nephews and nieces. Predeceased by husband William 4.T., brother Maurice and sisters Kathleen, Edith and Muriel. Upon George's retirement, they looked forward to spending time each winter in Florida. Aileen was a devoted wife of the late George Davidson, loving mother of Morley, Karry, Karen (Davis) and Kenneth- and grand- mother of Adam and Laura David- son and Sara and Emily Davis. Relatives and friends attended the funeral on April 16, 1987 at the Wagg Funeral Home, Port Perry with Rev. Glenn Jackson officiating. In- terment at the Greenbank . Cemetery.
