Ties, wins and a rain-out Full week for Gamblers This past week saw the Green- bank Gamblers experience a wide * range of happenings as they won a game, lost a game in extra innings, tied two games and were rained out in a game at Oshawa. Last Monday night in Greenbank Park saw the league leading Stouff- ville team in action and behind the excellent pitching of Mark Goreski the Gamblers stopped Stouffville by a 7-1 score. Mark Goreski was in complete control of this game and he allowed only 4 scattered singles throughout the contest. Randy Grant had a pair of Stouffville hits with John Tait also picking up two hits to complete the Stouffville attack. The Gamblers jumped on John Annis in the first inning and had a four run lead before Jim Chilvers relieved in the first inning. Green- bank added a fifth run in the first in- ning and single runs in the third and fourth. Trevor Till, George Redshaw, Don Beaton and Don Phinney led the Gambler attack with two hits each and Greg Rodd picked up a single to round out the offense. This win by Greenbank kept the league race close as Stouffville were threatening to run away from the rest of the teams in the Oshawa "A" Division. The following night in Oshawa the Gamblers were rained out of their scheduled match with Oshawa MCL Juniors. The rain had stopped but the field was deemed unplayable by the officials. At the Richmond Hill Tournament on the weekend the Gamblers met Belleville in the first game and came up with a 1-1 tie as Mark Goreski and Bellevilles Steve Reid were very stingy with base hits. The Gamblers tied the game in the fifth inning as Brian Henricks plated Brian Till with a long double. In the bottom of the seventh inning Green- bank had the potential winning run thrown out at home plate on a great throw from the Belleville right ~ fielder. Against Richmond Hill 'Mr. Grumps,"' Ken Goreski, faced Dave Love on the Richmond Hill mound and again the score was tied after the regulation time and ended in a 3-3 tie. Mark Goreski did some outstan- ding pitching in relief for the Gamblers, Richmond Hill had a lead off triple late in the game and Mark came in and struck out the side. Don Beaton with two hits led the attack with Neil Rodd, Hugh Johnston, Greg Rodd, Brian Till and Terry Till each adding a safe hit. Sunday morning with the temperature hovering over 90 degrees Greenbank and Richmond . Hill Save Ons got into a real barn burner of a game which went into extra innings before Richmond Hill finally edged the Gamblers by a 5-4 score. Home runs were highlighted in this game as "The Hill" banged out 3 in the game and Greg Rodd and Brian Henricks replied for © Greenbank. Mark Goreski went the distance in the heat and picked up six strike outs along the way. Gary Wilkinson and Mark Bendahan shared the pit- ching in the game for Richmond Hill. While the league race is still in full swing with the Gamblers still hav- ing a shot at catching Stouffville due to a pair of rained out games, 0.A.S.A. playoff action is just around the corner. In the Division this year are Claremont, Fraserville, Port Perry 'and Greenbank and it appears that the Gamblers will meet the Port Perry XL Eagles in the first round. The times and dates of this series will appear in this paper. OSHAWA CITY AND DISTRICT LEAGUE STANDINGS Name Stouffville Greenbank Port Perry Oshawa ACL MCL Juniors Claremont Jrs.
