The Port Perry team was full value for their win over their tradi- tional rivals from Greenbank and will be excellent representatives from this area at the O.A.S.A. Championships. Port Perry were sharp in the field and hit well in the clutches whereas the Gamblers did not consistantly play up to their normal standards. There were two excellent crowds for the series which proves there is still considerable interest locally in the game of fastball. Greenbank Park was full for the Monday night game and a full house was on hand for the return match on Thursday in Port Perry. The Monday night match featured the Gamblers Mark Goreski versus the Eagles Lawrie Williams, and while the Gamblers: outhit the Eagles by an 8-6 margin, the Eagles hit with men on base and gave Port Perry a 6-3 win. Mark Goreski had 10 strikeouts in the game and Lawrie Williams fann- ed 9 Greenbank batters. Larry Pilkey led the Port Perry futac with two hits and three .B.I.'s. Trevor Till and Rodd Real had a pair of hits each to lead the Gamblers. ? On Thursday night Al Heintzman opposed Randy Underwood on the Greenbank mound and the Gamblers struck early as they _ scored twice in the first inning and left runners on second and third. However, the 2-0 Greenbank lead disappeared in the bottom of the third inning when Port Perry rallied for three runs capped off by a boom- ing homerun by catcher Rob Evans. Heintzman then shut down the Gambler batters and Port Perry won going away by a 5-2 score. Rob Evans and Colin Wackett each had two hits for the Eagles with Jay Williams, Larry Pilkey and Bill Bridge each having one safety. Greenbank hits went to Don Beaton with a pair, and Trevor Till, Greg Rodd and Rodd Real picking up one hit a piece. Port Perry were at the peak of their game in this series while the Gamblers are in a minor slump hav- ing lost their last four ball games. The big job for the players now is to put this disappointment behind them and get ready to play at the C.N.E. Tournament which starts this Sunday for the Gamblers at the C.N.E. diamond with game time 5:00 p.m. Needless to say the competition at the 12 team tournament will be first class so the Gamblers must rebound and be ready to-play their best.
